The two Most Valuable Players on the 1967-68 Newton County
High School basketball teams were Melody Barker and Richard
Allen. These two fine cage performers took top honors at the
Newton Tipoff Club “Fans Appreciation Banquet’’ Friday night
at the Newton High Cafeteria.
Other trophy winners at the
annual basketball banquet were:
Most Improved, Jackie Matthews
and Bubba Hill; Sportsmanship,
Debbie Wiley and Thad Blank
enship; Most Effort, Judy Clay
and Terry Schell; and Best De
fensive Player, Phil Shaw. Mak
ing the presentations of these
awards were Mayor Walker Har
ris for the Elks Lodge, Rev.
H. N. Earnest and Danny Har
well. The latter is president of
the NCHS Key Club.
Coaches Tom Wortman of the
NCHS Girls’ team and Ronald
Bradley of the Ram squad pre
sented letters and jackets to
players of their teams earning
those honors for the past sea
son. Coach Benny Rogers of
the Boys’ B team presented let
ters to his players for their
effort during the past year.

nificent job in staging the big
gest event thus far. There was
a capacity crowd, possibly around
300 at the program.
