Oxford College Adult Education
Program Begins Third Quarter
Oxford College of Emory Un
iversity invites you to continue
your education this spring by tak
ing advantage of the Adult Educa
tion Program. This program will
soon begin its third quarter, and
continues to offer to the people of
this and surrounding commun
ities the opportunity to supple
ment their knowledge in the in
formal atmosphere of non-credit
short courses. These courses,
at a cost of only $12.50 each, are
open to all those desiring to en
roll.
The Spring Quarter classes
will begin Monday, April 8, and
will meet once a week for eight
weeks. Each class will continue
for one and a half hours, with a
ten minute break. A minimum of »
12 students is required for the
class to operate. ,

The curriculum for the Spring
Quarter has been expanded to in
clude other areas of interest to
the public.
BUSINESS LAW
Mr. Troy R. Thigpen, a res
pected attorney of Covington, will
be teaching a course entitled
BUSINESS LAW. This is an ex
cellent opportunity to learn more
about contracts, real estate tran
sactions, damage suits, domestic
relations, wills, sales, negotiable
instruments, agencies, partner
ships, corporations, and other
areas of business as influenced
by our laws. Mr. Thigpen, in add-
ition to his legal practice in Cov
ington, teaches at Georgia State
College in Atlanta. This class
will meet in History Hall 101 on
Thursday nights at 7:30.

sonality development, stages and
ages in growth, learning and
choosing, emotions and disci
pline, creativity and the unique
ness of each child. Methods of
study will include lectures, role

SPEECH FOR YOU is a course
which can help you speak well,
not only formally before an aud
ience, but also informally in a
social group. Emphasis will be
placed on lessening speech jit
ters, making a speech interest
ing, giving oral reports to so
cial, civic, or religious organi
zations, being a good salesper
son, conducting a meeting, and
talking to others at a party. Good
speakers are not born, they are
made. This class will meet in
History 101 on Wednesday nights
at 7:30. This course will be taught
by Mr. William G. Adams, Ad
missions Counselor of Oxford
College. Mr. Adams, a graduate
of Oxford College and the Univer
sity of Georgia with a major in
speech pathology, has served as
speech pathologist and consultant
in several Georgia counties.
MODERN POLITICAL THOUGHT
MODERN POLITICAL
THOUGHT will be taught by Dr.
Donald N. Broughton, Assistant
Professor of Social Studies at
Oxford College. Dr. Broughton
earned his Ph. D. at Houston
University in Sociology and Phil
osophy. This course will be a
consideration of major political
ideologies which have been sig
nificant in the twentieth century.
Some of these will be: liberal
democracy; communism; fasci
sm; socialism; the philosophy of
the United Nations. Plans also
include discussions of some of
the alternatives in contemporary
American political thought. This
class will meet in History 101
on Tuesday nights at 7:30.
PHYSICAL FITNESS FOR MO
DERN LIVING-MEN
Coach Charles A. Burnett,
Assistant Professor of Health
and Physical Education at Ox
ford College, will teach a course
entitled PHYSICAL FITNESS
FOR MODERN LIVING. This is
a course designed to aid men in
developing techniques and skills
in maintaining physical fitness.
This class will meet in the Gym
on Monday nights at 7:30.
LEARNING HOW TO SWIM
Coach Burnett will also be
teaching a course entitled
LEARNING HOW TO SWIM. This
will be a course for non-swimm
ers to learn the fundamentals, and
for the poor swimmers to learn
to use better strokes with safety.
The course will have a limit of
12 students. This class will meet
on Tuesday nights in the swim
ming pool building at 7:30.
Coach Burnett is the past State
Governor of Lions International
and is active in Boy Scouts.
Both physical education cour
ses require that a doctor’s state
ment regarding physical ability
to enroll be submitted prior to the
first class.
