The red brick home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Durand on Highway 142 is situated down a long drive
from the road. Entrance to the carport is secured by the curved drive entering at the end of the
home, giving the home a longer design. The back of the home overlooks a large lake.
The Roger Durands Lovely Home
Overlooks Lake And Green Pastures
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Durand
chose the peace and quiet of
country living to build their red
brick home on Highway 142. Lo
cated back from the highway, and
well shaded, the home overlooks
a beautiful lake and green pasture
on opposite side with cattle graz
ing peacefully over the hillside.
Mr. Durand said a specific re
quirement when the plans were
drawn for their home was spac
ious rooms throughout and as
much glass as possible on the
back, which overlooks the lake.
This was carried out in all sec
tions of the home as a portion
of the lake and meadow Is vis
ible from every room.
An entrance hall leads from
the front door to the large liv
ing room which Is separated from
the dining room by a partial wall
of red brick formed by the open
fireplace. The kitchen, facing
the front of the home, Is separ-

"Fun" Home
For Freedom Loving Families
The growing revolt against
look-alike housing and the fun
loving, freedom-living tendan
cies of modern Americans are
strongly influencing, residential
design.
Individuality and recreational
opportunity are the hallmarks of
many late model homes. The
new emphasis is on styling, de
tails and materials which achieve
harmony of home and terrain and
take advantage of Nature’s bless
ings.
According to the Southern Pine
Association, patio decks are in
creasingly popular because they
create a feeling of expansive
ness, sweeping appearance and
close communion of home and
attractive surroundings.
Delightfully natural in char
acter, patio decks provide open
air family rooms for informal
entertaining, dining or relaxing
on pleasant days. When form
ed with pressure-treated, pre
shrunk Southern Pine lumber, a
deck has immunity to insect at
tack and the elements.
Intriguingly styled roof struct
ures have engendered a new free
dom of interior design along with
visual distinction. For example,
exposed beam systems lend such
strength to the roof that par
titioning can be mini mi zed for the
sake of larger rooms and ef
ficient open planning.
With this method, roof and ceil
ing are formed by horizontal
beams under a canopy of wood
roof decking. Since this roof
requires support at fewer points
than conventional structures,
many living areas can be divided
by less than full floor-to-ceil
ing partitions which offer a
tempting glimpse of what lies
beyond. The great strength of
the roof also permits the in
clusion of large window areas
to frame attractive views and

Did you know that a blender

According to Miss Doris Og

to do with one.
In a new Cooperative Extension
Service publication entitled “So
You’re Going To Buy A Blend
er,” Miss Oglesby offers Georg
ia homemakers some tips on what
a blender can do, how it operates
and what it costs. She also dis
cusses the various features of
different blenders.
Four tips which Miss Oglesby
points out can also apply to the
purchase of other kitchen equip
ment. Buy a recognized brand.
Buy from a dealer you know and
