The Sixth Annual Convention
of the Georgia Association of In
dustrial Arts Clubs will be held
in Macon at the Dempsey Motor
Hotel, April 5-7. The theme of
the Convention is “Pride in Pro
gress”.
Representatives from the In
dustrial Arts Club of Newton
County High School will attend
the Convention and will compete
with the other participating clubs

tions for the banquet on the even-
ing of April 6. Mrs. Ralph
Hobbs of the State Department

at the banquet.

BSA Chairman
The Newton-Rockdale Boy
Scout District Committee held
their monthly meeting on Mon
day evening, March 25, 1968,
at Oxford College.
The 1968-69 slate of officers
presented and unanimously elect
ed were: District Chairman,
Sam Ramsey of Covington; Vice
Chairman, Ted Stroud of Por
terdale; Vice Chairman, Walter
(Bud) Autry of Conyers; Dis
trict Commissioner, Clyde Aul
of Conyers.
The Assistant District Chair
man for Newton County and As
sistant District Chairman for
Rockdale County will be pre
sented later.

To Register
First Graders
Palmer Stone Elementary
School will register children for
first grade April 8-12 from 8:30
until 2:30. It Is important to bring
your child’s birth certificate. If
you have a health certificate,
please bring it also. Health
certificate blanks may be ob
tained from the school when you
register your child and returned
when they are completed or the
first day of school.
No child may enter first grade
who has not been vaccinated.
Cadet Phillips
On Honor’s List
At No. Georgia
Cadet Robert L. Phillips, a
Senior at North Georgia College,
Dahlonega, was placed on the
Honors List for outstanding aca
demic achievement during the
Winter Quarter. Cadet Phillips
made all “A’s” for the entire
Winter Quarter.
Honors list students must reg
ister for a normal course load
of 15 quarter hours or more and
earn a “B” or above In all
academic courses carried.
He is the son of Major Claude
R. Phillips and Mrs. Phillips,
70 Stone Road, Oxford.
Tech’s Debate
Team Wins Trophy
The Georgia Tech Debate Team
won the trophy in the Moses
Hodas Invitational Tournament
sponsored by Columbia Univer
sity. Debating subject for the
tournament was “Resolved that
the Federal government should
guarantee a minimum annual cash
income to all citizens.” Tech
took the negative position in the
final rounds. This was the first
time Tech had won a major
debate trophy in eight years.
