Arthritis May
Be Spotlighted
By Special Month
President Johnson has been
asked to support a Joint-House-
Senate Resolution designating
May as "National Arthritis
Month.”
Dr. Daniel D. Hankey, Presi
dent of Georgia Chapter of The
Arthritis Foundation, said
Thursday that he is writing to
the President asking him to throw
his support behind the resolu
tion now in House and Senate
committees.
Dr. Hankey said that letters
of concern and support have been
received from Senators Russell
and Talmadge, Reps. Ben B.
Blackburn, Fletcher Thompson,
John J. Flynt, W. S. (Bill) Stuck
ey and John W. Davis.
Passage of this resolution
would focus attention on the na
tion’s greatest crippier and most
wide-spread chronic disease, Dr.
Hankey said.
•‘Too many people feel that
arthritis is a disease of old age.
Arthritis strikes at all ages
even tiny children are affected.
The greatest number of victims
of the crippling types of arthri
tis are men and women between
20 and 40,” he said.
“This resolution also points
out,” continued Dr. Hankey, "that
when diagnosed early, arthritis
responds to treatment to the
extent that crippling can be pre
vented in 7 out of 10 cases.”

Ways To Improve
Plant Layout
Agribusinessmen who are
planning to build or improve
plant layouts can get assistance
from their county Extension
agent’s office.
This help is in the form of
a new publication by E. Walter
Wilson, Extension Service in
dustrial engineer - agribusiness.
Entitled "Improving Plant Lay
out,” the new publication offers
helpful guidelines to successful
layout, including advantages of
several plant layout plans.
"Good plant layout gives a
smooth, orderly flow of materials
and operations,” Mr. Wilson
said. The purpose of plant layout
is to coordinate men, equipment,
materials and floor space so they
carry out the basic functions of
the business effectively as pos
sible, he added.
In the publication Mr. Wilson
points out ways to help accom
plish the firm’s basic activities,
reduce work-in-process, cut ma
terials handling, stretch floor
area, lower investment in equip
ment and labor, allow for flex
ibility and provide better work
ing conditions.
Interested agribusiness men
may obtain copies of "Improv
ing Plant Layout” at local coun
ty Extension Service offices.
