According to Extension agents,
Ed Hunt, Carolyn Joyner and Lot
tie Johnson, these top-notch 4-H
Club members will now repre
sent Newton County at District
Project Achievement meetings
to be held in June at the Rock
Eagle 4-H Club Center near Ea
tonton. These county winners
have worked hard to earn the
expense-paid trip to these Dis
trict meetings and will compete
with other county winners from
the Northwest District for the
“District winner” title.

and shipping.
Initial training and shakedown
phases are already underway.
A second production line is sche
duled to go on stream May 1,
and a third is tagged for June 1.
First commercial production is
slated for May 1.
“I know our men will suc
cessfully meet this new chal
lenge”, stated Maynard Kessing
er, Production Superintendent.
“Considering we have had new
men on new machines, our pro
duction personnel have turned
in a record of which they can
be proud. The experience they
have gained during the past six
months will help overcome the
development pains in this new
operation.”
“We’re well on the way to
becoming a full, working part
ner In the Hercules family,”
said Lou Karman, Plant Mana
ger. “This new fiber broadens
the base on which our whole
plant rests. The more products
we can offer to our customers,
the more solid our future will
be. I am sure we can expect
more exciting Innovations in the
years to come.”
Once again research has con
tributed a new step forward.
This new product and process
in a new plant reflects the grow
ing Importance and reward of
time and money devoted to re
search and development. What
new products and processes will
we see here at Oxford in the
months and years to come? Only
the future can answer that.

Rotary Club Has
Rep. Ballard As
Speaker Tues.
The Covington Rotary Club held
their regular weekly meeting
Tuesday with President Hugh
Steele presiding and welcoming
members and guests. The pro
gram for the day was under the
supervision of John Morford,
program chairman for the month.
Mr. Morford introduced Don
Ballard, a member of the local
club and Representative from
the county to the General Assem
bly of the State. He gave a
most interesting and enlighten
ing talk on the activities of the
Assembly during the recent ses
sion. This review of first hand
information afforded the group a
most enjoyable program.
Carlos Meyer presented and
welcomed J.V. Davidson as a new
member of the local Rotary Club.
Davidson is Superintendent of
Bibb Manufacturing Company’s
Osprey Mill at Porterdale.
The program for next week,
under the direction of John
Morford, will be presented by
Dr. Lavinia (Mrs. Edgar) Wood,
Education Director for Newton
County. She will speak on the
Student Evaluation Program in
Newton County.
