Sammy Ozburn, Teresa Walden Elected
President, Vice-President Student Body
In a recent election by stu
dents of Newton County High
Schoo], Sammy Ozburn and Tere
sa Walden were elected president
and vice-president of the NCHS
student body for the school year
1968-69.
Ozburn is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Ozburn, Jr. of New
born. He is a member of the
Newborn Methodist Church and is
president of Methodist Youth Fel
lowship (MYF). Miss Walden
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. Walden of Porterdale. She
is a member of the Porterdale
Baptist Church.
Sammy began his school act
ivities at an early age, serv
ing as Senior Class mascot for
the NCHS Class of 1956.
During his freshman year he
was a member of the Student
Council, on the staff of “The
Ram Speaks,” a member of the
Hi-Y, Art Club and 4-H, and
on the tennis team.
As a sophomore and junior
Ozburn has been actively engaged
in many school projects, espec
ially with the Hi-Y, Key Club
and French Club. He is pre
sently secretary of the junior
class, vice-president of the Hi-Y,

Our tax bill for 1967 was $45.2 million.
That would build 67 new schools, and each
would be as well-equipped, as large and
as modern as the one pictured above.

fire and police protection, schools, streets
and highways and many other public pro
grams that benefit all of us.
Georgia Power Company pays federal
income, state income and state property
taxes. In addition, we make payments to
154 counties, 445 cities and 185 school and
fire districts.

are born, in every community,
with some handicap. That’s what
the Easter Seal Society does with
your dollars and dlmes...they
have centers over the state (Read
Chatterbox) where these child
ren, young people, and grown
ups with handicaps go for free
treatment because WE CARE.
It’s time to give NOW, today,
before the end of next week, for
our time Is about up for col
lections. Look in this paper at
the picture of the little white girls
picture. She Is being treated
for a speech handicap. Trained
fingers of a speech /therapist
help this speech handicapped girl
shape words. The training she
gets at an Easter Seal center
helps her to keep up with others
In school.
Look at the picture of the
little Negro Boy in this Issue
of the News. Dabbling in fin
ger paints Is part of occupation
al therapy for this handicapped
youngster. The treatment he is
getting at an Easter Seal cen
ter helps him learn to use his
hands and brain. So you see
It Is not just braces, crutches
and chairs... Our Easter Seal
Centers should be visited by
every person In Georgia so that
every mother with a handicapped
child should know In time that

A Covington man has been del
egated by Life Insurance Com
pany of Georgia to participate
in flag-raising ceremonies at
the new Life of Georgia Tower,
the company’s 29-story home
office building in Atlanta.

organization. He earned mem
bership In the elite group through
his outstanding service record
during 1967.
Life of Georgia Tower Is sit
uated on a 3.1 acre landscaped
plaza in the “uptown” business
section of Atlanta. The just
complete steel-structure build
ing is faced with white Georgia
marble and grey-tinted glass.
It is 371 feet tall.
The Tower is hub for insur
ance operations carried on by
some 4,000 people. There are
