Atlanta Braves could use some of what Coach Ronald Bradley’s
team has this year although the squad isn’t expected to win the
Region BAA diamond title. Bradley’s team has Pitching and de
fense as superbly shown in the last two games played by the NCHS
nine.
Mike Hodges and Chan McDou

masterpiece at the Forsyth Coun

Wednesday of last week Hodges

Aaron Threatens To Eclipse Hornsby
Among Baseball's Greatest Hitters
"The greatest righthander hit
ter since Rogers Hornsby”—
that’s what they’ve always called
the Atlanta Braves’ Henry Aaron.
Well, Aaron is on the brink of
permanently erasing that nagg
ing”...since Rogers Hornsby” in
his 15th season in the big leagues.
It took Hornsby a lot longer
than that to establish himself
as the game’s greatest right
handed hitter. He played 23 sea
sons, from 1915 to 1937, with
the Cardinals, Giants, Braves,
Cubs and Browns. His .424 batt
ing average for the Cards in 1924
is the highest in the major leagues
since 1900, and the .387 he hit for
the Braves in 1928 is still a team
record.
Aaron, however, has already
passed Hornsby in lifetime home
runs (452 through games of Ap
ril 17th to Hornsby’s 302) and
extra base hits (1019 to 1011).
Barring an injury, Aaron should
go by Hornsby this season in
runs (he needs 57), total bases
(needs 19) and runs batted in
(needs 23). In two more sea
sons, Aaron will pass Hornsby
in hits ( he needs 305) and dou
bles (he needs 89).
Aaron’s major personal goal
this season, however, lies else
where. He has a chance to be-
