Covington Elkadettes
Hear Miss Pennington
The Covington Elkadettes No.
1806 held their regular monthly
meeting at the Elks Lodge on
April 22. A delicious buffet
dinner preceded the meeting
called to order by the new Pre- <
sident, Mrs. Brenda Woodward.
The Club Collect was read in
unison to open the meeting. Mrs.
Woodward then extended a warm
welcome to all members and
guests.
The roll call was made with
26 members answering. Mrs.
Wendell W. Crowe, Mrs. Glenn
Holland, and Mrs. A. Y. Carmi
chael were welcomed as new
members. The minutes were
read and approved.
Reports were made by standing
committees and announcements
of coming events were given.
Mrs. Woodward announced the
committees for the coming year
and challenged them for the job
ahead.
The meeting was then turned
over to our Program Chairman,
Mrs. Rachel Chapman. She in
troduced Miss Rebecca Penn
ington, Director of the Depart
ment of Family and Children Ser
vices of Newton County and Mrs.
Brown Nevels, Child Welfare
Worker. Miss Pennington gave
a most interesting talk on the
work of this department and the
assistance given to the needy
citizens of our county. Mrs.
Nevels then told us of her work
with the children of our county
and the many different phases
of the work that she does. The
talks were most interesting and
very informative. They gave us
an insight of the tremendous
job this department is doing and
the workers who do this great
job. We sincerely appreciate
their untiring efforts to the peo
ple of Newton County.
There being no further bus
iness, the meeting was adjour
ned. The next meeting will be
held on May 27, and all mem
bers are urged to make their
plans to attend.
