President Davison To Be
Inaugurated On May 11
ATHENS-The University of
Georgia will inaugurate its 17th
president May 11 in ceremonies
that will focus international aca
demic attention on the institution.
Dr. Fred C. Davison, named to
succeed retiring president Dr.
O. C. Aderhold last May, will be
formally installed as president
during a fortnight of traditional
ceremony and academic panop
oly.
Delegates from hundreds of in
stitutions of higher learning
across the United States and from
around the globe will march in
the inaugural procession and
numbers of learned societies,
academic associations, founda
tions and other organizations are

expected to be represented.
Participants, who are expected
to number in the thousands, will
begin arriving on the campus May
2 for the opening of a 10-days
long period of activities.
The inaugural ceremony has
been timed to coincide with the
University’s newest tradition, the
“U. Ga. Great Day,” and will be
proceeded and followed by spec
ial observances of the institu
tion’s various colleges, schools,
and other campus organizations.
The University’s Division of
Landscape Architecture has sch
eduled the first event of the cele
bration, with an academic sym
posium observing its 40th anni
versary. The event begins on
Automotive Firm Expands
Covington Building Plans
The City of Covington has re
ceived notification that the Auto
motive Molding Company will
build a larger plant here than was
originally announced last year.
Mayor Walker Harris said that
a recent letter to his office
states that the firm will build
a 32,000 square foot building.
The Company had announced
sometime ago that the initial
May 2.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk
will come to the campus May 4
to help the Law School observe
Law Day and will speak in the
Fine Arts Auditorium at 11 a. m.
that day.
Other activities will include
meetings of Business Admini
stration and Pharmacy alumni,
class reunions and meetings of
the Alumni Society and the Alumni
Society Board of Managers.
The inaugural convocation is
scheduled for 10:30 a. m. May
11 and will be followed by an
inaugural luncheon for official
delegates and invited guests at
12:30 p. m. The annual G-Day
football game, at 2:30 p. m.,
will follow.
The new president, who is 38,
holds a doctor of veterinary med
icine degree from the University
and a doctorate in pathology and
biochemistry from lowa State Un
iversity. He became dean of the
School of Veterinary Medicine
here in 1964 and was vice chan
cellor of the University System
of Georgia from 1966 until last
year when he was named to suc
ceed Dr. Aderhold.

Bids will be sent out for the
contract on the building within
the near future, a spokesman
for the Warren, Michigan firm
stated.
The new industry has an op
tion on 15 acres of land on In
dustrial Boulevard in Covington.
When the building program of
the firm is at its peak here some
250-300 people will be employed.
Building plans eventually call
for some 60,000 sq. ft. of floor
space on Industrial Boulevard.

DCT Club To
Sponsor Show
The DCT Club is sponsoring a
show on May 7 at 7:30 p. m.at the
Strand Theatre. The title of the
show is “More Than A Miracle,”
and stars Sophia Loren. It is a
love story about a Prince and a
peasant girl. Two or three car
toons will also be shown.
Admission will be 75? for
adults and 35? for children. The
public is encouraged to come out
and support the DCT Club.
An enterprising designer has
built a paper house that can be
used as a beach house in the
summer, ski chalet in winter and
then can be collapsed for storage
in the garage or cellar. It weighs
120 pounds, is fireproof and will
last at least five years, notes the
American Paper Institute.
