Fluid Milk Prices
To Farmers Raised
ATLANTA—The U. S. Depart
ment of Agriculture has amended
federal milk orders to increase
fluid milk prices to dairy far
mers.
The action applies to all south
eastern milk order markets ex
cept in Florida, which are being
service, had their service re
stored about 11 a.m. Wednesday,
according to Bill Hoffman.
During the day Wednesday
many of the technicians and re
pairmen of Southern Bell were in
Covington from almost all the
area adjacent to Covington. Cal
led in were Southern Bell per
sonnel from Atlanta, Western
Electric, Athens, Madison and
other places.
Thursday, May 9, 1968
considered separately, the Con
sumer and Marketing Service
said.
The increases, May 1, will con
tinue the 20-cent increase in the
fluid milk (Class 1) price differ
entials in effect since last May,
and provide a minimum basic
formula price of $4.33 a hun
dredweight, through April 1969.
In a few eastern markets us
ing economic price formulas,
comparable action is being taken.
The USDA milk orders set min
imum prices to dairy farmers,
the Consumer and Marketing Ser
vice said, but do not regulate
milk prices consumers pay.
