From our sister state of Tenn
essee, where so many of our fine
educators hail from, come Mr.
and Mrs. Frank C. Berretta, and
their little son Frank, Jr., who
now reside at 7102 Washington
St., S.W., since their move from
Memphis.
Mrs. Berretta, a native Geor
gian from Tbomaston, names mu
sic as her prime hobby, and plays
both the piano and organ. She
also enjoys fishing, sketching
and sewing. Mr. Berretta, a
professional painter, is a native
of Memphis. He shares his
wife’s enthusiasm for fishing;
and also likes mechanics and
hunting. They are members of
the Pentecostal Church.

Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Patrick

daughter, Linda Lee, of Carr
ollton, formerly of Covington, to
Henry Joseph Wise, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Wise of North
Kingston, Rhode Island.
Miss Patrick was graduated
from Newton County High School
and West Georgia College and is
presently teaching at Central
High School in Carrollton.
Mr. Wise is a graduate of Cran
ston High School, Cranston,
Rhode Island; Hiram College, Hi
ram, Ohio and Emory University,
Decatur. He is presently a mem
ber of the faculty of West Georgia
College in Carrollton.
The wedding will take place at
the home of the bride’s parents
in Oxford on June 15.

Jimmy Lamar Peugh Is Announced
Rev. and Mrs. Charles L.
Moody, Jr. of Covington announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Becky Melinda Moody, to Jimmy
Lamar Peugh, son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Peugh of
Porterdale.
Miss Moody is a senior at
Newton County High School.
Mr. Peugh is a graduate of
Newton County High School. He
is now serving in the U. S.
Army and is presently stationed
at Ft. Rucker, /Alabama.
The wedding will take place
June 8, at 8:00 o’clock at the
County Line Baptist Church. All
friends and relatives of the couple

Mary Jane stinchcomb to Charles
Kendall Everett, Jr., son of Rev
erend and Mrs. Charles Kendall
Everett, Sr. of Dublin.
The bride-elect is the grand
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. W.
Stinchcomb, and Mr. C. V. Ray
and the late Ella Todd Ray of
Road, near Mrs. Swann’s other
daughter, Mrs. John Floyd.
Mrs. Swann, a native of Hunts
ville, Ala., enjoys gardening, both
vegetable and flower; and sewing
is her favority homemaking hob
by. She is a member of the
Church of God.
A warm welcome awaits these
new families in the churches of
their choice, their new neigh
borhoods; and in many other act
ivities which make up Newton
County’s community life, of which
they are now a part.

Miss Stinchcomb is a gradu
ate of Newton County Highschool,
and is presently enrolled as a
senior at Macon Hospital School
of Nursing, Macon.
The future bridegroom is the
grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Caswell Everett of Dub
lin, and the late Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Victor Warren of De
troit, Michigan.
Mr. Everett is presently en
rolled as a sophomore at Geor
gia Military College in Milledge
ville, which he has attended the
past six years, having completed
his high school education there.
He plans to enroll at Georgia
Southern College at Statesboro,
in the fall.
A late summer wedding is
planned.

of the Eastern Star will meet

The bride-to-be is a graduate

and Harrison-Draughn’s Busi
ness School. She is employed
by Drs. Paty, Callaway and Pur

Mr. Harvey is a graduate of
Newton County High School and
is employed as County Manager
of the Rockdale A.S.C.S. Office
in Conyers.

Miss Judy Laseter and her
fiance, Jim Benton, whose wed
ding will take place in June,
shared honors on Saturday eve
ning at a dinner party and sur
prise shower, given in their hon
or by Miss Cindy Richardson,
at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Richardson.
Focal point of the foyer was
a colorful arrangement of Flem
ish flowers. In the living room
pink and white peonies lent floral
interest on the piano, where the
nuptial motif was keynoted with
an authentically costumed, min
iature bride and groom; and end
tables held identical arrange
ments of pink and red rosebuds.
The buffet table, from which
the delicious dinner was served,
was overlaid with an Imported,
cut-work embroidered linen
cloth. A silver candelabrum,
holding glowing pink candles, fea
tured a central nosegay of pink
rosebuds and fern tips. Tables
for seating guests in the sola
rium were overlaid with pink
linen, and centered with white
satin baskets of crimson rose
buds.
In addition to those for the
guests of honor and hostess,
covers were laid for the fol
lowing guests: Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Lazenby of Macon; Mr.
and Mrs. Terry Smith, Knox
ville, Tenn.; Miss Nancy Spears,
Hugh Wilbur, University of Geor

Rotarians And Wives Fete Parents Os
Oxford College Exchange Student
General and Mrs. Martin Har
linghausen of West Germany
were central figures on Sunday
afternoon, at a reception held at
the Teen-Can by the local Rotary
Club, which sponsors the Har
linghausens’ daughter, Gisela
Harlinghausen at Oxford College,
through the Georgia Student Pro
gram.
All green arrangements, a
table arrangement of lavender,
yellow and purple Siberian iris
in a white ceramic compote, and
an elongated brass container of
yellow gladiolus, stock andchry- 1
santhemums on the piano en
hanced the spacious setting.
The refreshment table, over
laid with white linen, held a
three branched silver candela
brum, with the central arrange
ment of snowflake chrysanthe
mums, Dutch iris and fern tips
flanked by white candles. The
crystal punch bowl and silver
trays of dainty home baked cook
ies and confections completed the
attractive appointments. Punch
was served by the respective
Ratarianne Chairman and Co-
chairman of the event, Mrs. Dal
las Tarkenton, wearing a hyacinth
pink costume in silk; and Mrs.
E. G. Lassiter, who wore a two
piece suit in golden sand, with
matching lace knit shell.
Receiving with General Har
linghausen and Mrs. Harlinghau
sen, who wore a flattering sum
mer sheer in white with pen
sketch floral pattern in black,
was their daughter, Miss Har
linghausen, wearing a multi
colored floral print, silk skim
mer, with green background; Ro
tary President Hugh Steele, and
Mrs. Steele, in a two piece linen
model in beige.
Mrs. Alvin Rape contributed
much to the occasion by ren
dering an enjoyable program of
piano compositions throughout
the reception’s calling hour of
six until seven o’clock.
General and Mrs. Harlinghau
sen, who are guests of Oxford
College and Rotarian and Mrs.
W, S. Cook, during their visit
here, were greeted by some
fifty Rotarians and their wives,
at the reception.
Newborn WSCS
Met Wednesday
With Mrs. A dams
The Newborn Church W.S.C.S.
met in the home of Mrs. Hugh
Adams Wednesday afternoon. The
president, Mrs. T. W. Binford,
called the meeting to order. The
Doxology was sung and the Lord’s
Prayer prayed. The minutes
were then read and approved.
The Financial Report and a thank
you letter from the Wesley Foun
dation in Athens for a donation
was read. Mrs. R. D. Murrelle
then made a report on the An
nual Meeting of April 18 at Bel
vedere Church.
Homes for the ministers for
the revival of May 19-24 were
discussed. New officers for
the coming year were then elect
ed. Mrs. Hugh King and Mrs.
Henderson of Covington were
welcomed as visitors.
Mrs. Hugh Adams presented
the devotional and showed two
films of the W.S.C.S. work.
The hostess served sand
wiches, cake, mints and punch
from her lovely dining table.
