baseball players honored at the
college’s Annual Activities Hon

brought to a close its regular
season Monday, May 13, with a
victory over Gordon Military
College, After a slow start
Oxford won its last three mat
ches to give them an overall
3-3 record,
Coach Bill Sells stated that
this team has greatly improved
over the season and he believes
that they will finish high in the
state tournament,
The Oxford Golfers and the
Oxford Tennis Team departed
Wednesday for Statesboro topar=
ticipate in the Georgia Junior
College Tournament,
Oxford College Tennis
Newton High’s 440-Relay track
team won first place in Region
BAA track meet at Gainesville
Saturday and will now enter the
State AA meet at Jonesboro on
Friday and Saturday of this week,

The Newton County Jaycee
tennis tournament will continue

Fowler Tennis Center in Coving=
ton. The finals are scheduled
for Saturday and Sunday after
noons starting about 2 o’clock.
Play will be resumed today

at 5:30, according to an announce=
ment by Miss Louise Fowler.

Ranked In Georgia Ratings
The Georgia rankings of tennis
players were announced recently
and Covington came up with a
high percentage in the rankings.
Miss Louise Fowler stated that
19 players from Covington were
listed.
Three Number One rankings to
Covingtonians included: girl’s 12
and under doubles, Nancy Lottand
Dawn Harris; boy’s 14 and under
doubles, Gil Gainer and Billy
Dobbs; and Billy Dobbs was rated
Number One inboy’s 14 and under
singles.
There were four Number Two
ratings, as follows: boy’s 12 and
under singles, Gil Gainer; girl’s
16 and under doubles, Gail Cost=
ley and Susan Lott; girl’s 12 and
under doubles, Debbie Prescott
and Jana Jackson; girl’s 14 dou

State-Wide Gun

Organization
A movement is underway to
form a state-wide organization
to promote all phases of shooting.
The new organization, tentatively
called the Georgia Gun Club
Association, will be open to both
individual and club memberships
from throughout the state.
According to Charles G, Dob=-
son, Sr., President of the Smyrna
Gun Club, the organization will
stress competitive shooting on
local, state, and national levels.
Firearms education, safety, and
hunting will also be a part of the
programe.
An organizational meeting is
planned sometime in the near
future. The date of this meet
ing has not been set at this time.
The date will be announced as
soon as it is set. Further
information onthis new organiza=-
