guest of the Harwells on Thursday
night. They visited Idus Harwell
in Conyers on Wednesday which
was his birthday.

NEWS AND SPORTS Editor Bob Greer is one of the most familiar faces to represent
The Covington News around town. Bob edits most of the copy, makes up the front page,
Sports page and many of the inside pages. He writes headlines, captions for pictures
and is a photographer. He has been with The News since 1954. ;X;
In the Georgia Press Association competition, Greer’s sports pages have received
many Ist, 2nd and 3rd place awards. In 1961 The News was judged second in the na-

Bob’s enthusiasm for sports dates back to his own high school days when he was a
•:•:• 3-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. •:•:■
Born in Johnson County, Tenn., he served 3 years in the Navy before entering South- : 3$
S: ern School of Printing and Watkins Institute, School of Journalism, both in Nashville,
Tenn. At the printing school he founded and edited the school newspaper, the original

$ In 1950 Bob and his wife, the former Auline Street of Tracy City, Tenn., moved to
Smithville, Tenn, where he edited The Smithville Review, a leading weekly in middle
® Tennessee. The Greers and their 11-year old daughter, Janis Margaret, now live on
3# Queen Ann st. in Oxford. :S|
Bob is a member of the American Legion, Covington Kiwanis Club, the National Sports
writer and Sportscaster Association and the Second Guessers Club, a club of sports
writers, broadcasters and public relations personnel in the Atlanta area.
The Greers regularly attend the Covington Church of Christ which Mrs. Greer helped
