Local Legion And Auxiliary
Officials Attend District Meet
The Tenth District Meeting
of the American Legion and Aux
iliary was held Sunday, June 9,
at the American Legion Home
in Lincolnton. A religious ser
vice was held at eleven o’clock
followed by a delicious lunch
served by the members of the
Lincolnton Post and Auxiliary.
Separate business meetings
were held in the afternoon with
Mrs. Bobby Cutsoil of Monroe
presiding in the absence of Mrs.
Bessee Kemp, president of the
Auxiliary District.
The meeting was opened in
regular form and District Roll
Call and reports were given.
It was voted that each unit con
tribute $2 for a gift from the
10th. District to our Depart
ment President. Miss Nancy
Sharp of Monroe was elected the
Page from the 10th. District to
attend the State Convention in
Augusta.
The Histories and Scrapbooks
were judged with first place His
tory going to Lincolnton, second
place to Athens 185. The Scrap
book winners were first place
Wesleyan Service Guild Met
Tuesday Evening For Meeting
The June meeting of the Wes
leyan Service Guild of the First
Methodist Church met last Tues
day night in the social hall of
the church.
Mrs. Mary F. Wofford presided
In the absence of the president.
Mrs. Ruth Taylor opened the
meeting with a timely devotional.
The group song, ""Ibis Is My
Father’s World” was followedby
a prayer by Mrs. Glenn Jones.
Reports from various commit
tees were given. Mrs. C. D.
Ramsey read a letter from Mar
tha Ashbaugh, District Chairman,
urging all officers and members
to attend the workshop at Avon
dale Methodist Church on June
10 at 7;45 p.m.
There has been a change in
the Rock Eagle Conference date.
It will be held on September
27, 28, and 29 this year. Salem

ington; Chaplain, Mrs. Jewell
Paul of Athens; Sergeant at Arms,
Mrs. Lewis White and Mrs. Hugh
Sams of Covington. Mrs. Bobble
Cutsoll of Monore was nominated
as a delegate to the National
Convention, delegates to be ele
cted at State Convention.
Those from Covington at
tending were Mrs. Lewis White,
Unit President; Charles Smith,
Post Commander; Mrs. Dan Clo
wer, Mrs. Hugh Sams, Derrell
Harper and Ty Cason.
weekend will be held as usual
on the second weekend in Oct
ober. Many Interesting plans
are in the making for these two
events.
Mrs. Taylor gave a talk on
Indonesia. This was followed by
a film strip and tape on Indon
esia made by the Rev. and Mrs.
Warren Harbert, former Coving
tonians, who now serve through
the Methodist Church in this
country.
Mrs. Sim Randle and Mrs. Edna
Miller were co-hostesses for the
meeting. At the social half hour,
the group was Invited around the
long table, which held as its cen
ter decoration a pottery bowl
filled with shasta daisies. Trays
of cakes, sandwiches and tid
bits graced the table. Mrs.
Taylor presided at the punch
bowl.
The July meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Tom Free
man.
Mr. ana Mrs. Edmund Fran
cis Mrok announce the birth of
a son, Edmund Francis. Jr., at
Newton County Hospital, on Fri
day, May 24. Mrs. Mrok is the
former Miss Carolyn Butler,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Butler of Augusta. Little Eddie’s
paternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. L. F. Servant, also of
Augusta.

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Sims Smith
announce the birth of a son, Ch
ristopher Robin, at Georgia Bap
tist Hospital in Atlanta, on Sat
urday, June 1. Mrs. Smith is
the former Miss Irene Robinson,
daughter of Mrs. Guy Robinson,
and the late Mr. Robinson; and
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith are
little Chris’s paternal grand
parents.

Evans announce the birth of a
son, James Kerry , at Georgia
Baptist Hospital, on Friday, May
31. Mrs. Evans is the former
Miss Dianne Hooten, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jake T. Hooten
Little Kerry’s paternal grand
parents are Mr. and Mrs. James
Cecil Evans.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Newton
of Covington announce the birth
of a baby girl on June 5 at
Newton County Hospital. She has
been given the name Allison
Dawn. The maternal grand
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Brasher of Forsyth and the pa
ternal grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. S. C. Newton of Marietta.
Allison has one older sister
named Tonya.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Ellis
of Decatur announce the birth
of their daughter, Nancy Dawn,
born on May 25 at Emory Uni
versity Hospital. The paternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
C. W. Ellis of Covington and
the maternal grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Jolley of
Atlanta. Dawn has one uncle, Da
vid Ellis of Covington.
