"Lite-A-Bike”
Program Set

teran of Foreign Wars will hold
its second annual "Lite-A-Bike”
Program at Sharp Field on Sat
urday, October 19th from 1 to 4
p. m. All boys and girls who
have a bicycle are urged to bring
their bikes to the football game
Saturday afternoon when the Lit
tle League teams will be playing.
The Veterans will be on hand to
attach reflector! zed tape to the
bicycles as a safety feature.
Days being so short now, it gets
dark quite early and this "Lite-
A-Bike” Program has been suc
cessful nationwide as a safety
factor.
We urge everyone who rides a
bicycle to participate in our ef
fort. In the event of rain, the
program will be postponed to the
following Saturday.

cent of the population are still
living in the state of their birth,
this represents real stability. In
the State of Georgia, 81 percent
are so-listed.
On the other hand, within the
borders of their own state, New
ton County residents are quite
mobile, a five-year Census Bu
reau study shows.
Approximately 11.1 percent of
the local population above age 5
moved into the county from other
parts of the state during that pe
riod and 34.7 per cent moved to
new addresses within the county.
Consideration is now being gi
ven in Congress and in some state
legislatures to easing the voting
eligibility rules affecting people
who have lived in new localities
for a relatively short time.
Now before Congress is a bill
entitled “Residency Voting Act
of 1967.” It would reduce the
qualifying period in Federal ele-
Explorer Scouts Make Plans
For Trip To Fort Benning
Boys from the Explorer Posts
in Newton-Rockdale District are
invited to attend the second
annual Explorado to be held at
Ft. Benning on Friday and Sat
urday, December 14-15. Over
four hundred Explorer Scouts
from the Atlanta Area Council
attended the affair last year.
A maximum of five hundred Ex
plorers will be invited this year.
Cost will be $5.00 per boy and
will include meals and housing.
Program highlights will include
the Buddy Seat Jump (parachute
training course), tour of Viet
nam Village used in training for
ctions to a mere two months.
It would set September Ist as
the uniform qualifying date.
In nearly every state, the lo
cal residence requirements for
voting range from six months
to two years. In New York it
is now three months.

Strozier, Monday, ordered th
ree persons charged with op
erating a vehicle with an ex
pired inspection sticker to for
feit their $25.00 cash bonds when
they failed to appear for trial.
Improper headlights and loud
mufflers also were in the lime
light in the court session Mon
day. Two persons drew fines
on the loud muffler count, and
one person paid a fine for hav
ing improper headlights on his
car.
Judge Strozier disposed of 10
cases of persons being charged
with drunkenness. Others whose
cases were called Monday inclu
ded: four for speeding, four for
reckless driving, five for dis
orderly conduct, three for DUI,
and two for driving without a li
cense.
Two cases concerned persons
charged with running “a dive”
and selling untaxed paid whis
key. They drew fines of $l5O
and S2OO.
