A TRIBUTE TO LITTLE
MARY ELLEN SHEPHERD
When our lives are touched by
tragedy it is so natural to ask
“Why?” I pray that God will
help me not to ask why but to
thank him for the short, but
precious life of this little girl.
I was not related to Ellen, ex
cept by marriage, but I knew
her all her life. She and her
family lived in our community
until about two years ago. Be
ing the same age as my own
little girl, our families spent
many happy times together. I
also kept her in my home for
some time while her mother
worked. Ellen’s sweet ways
and shy smile won the hearts
of all who knew her. Being a
lover of nature especially ani
mals and flowers, she usually
had some pets, and often brought
flowers to our Sunday School
class. While she lived here she
was a faithful member of Sunday
School and loved the stories and
songs she learned there.
Over the years we became
very close as we shared many
wonderful experiences. We al
ways looked forward to her vis
its back to the community and
church services.
It is true that my life will not
be the same now that Ellen is
gone, but it will not be the same
because I had the joy of knowing
and loving her. Her love and
affection for me will always be
a cherished memory. I know
that our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Our pastor said that only God
