Rams Rolling Again

Two games during the past
weekend shows that the Newton
County Rams are definitely back
on the winning track. The NCHS
boys downed Burney Harris here
Friday night 71-53 and then took
Forsyth County at Cumming Sat
urday evening 61-20.
The NCHS girls split their two
tilts during the same period of
play, downing the Burney Harris
sextet 45-23 on Friday, and losing
to Forsyth County 53-37.
In the Friday game at Coving
ton, the Rams set a new record
so r rebounds claimed In a game
with 77. That eclipsed the old
mark of 71 against the Central
Gwinnett team in 1960. Brad
ley’s boys also tied a record
for permitting the fewest points
in a game at Cumming, 20. The
previous 20 points in a game was
when the Rams annihilated the
Morgan County team here 101-
20 in January 1959.
Center Thad Blankenship and
Guard Bubba Hill led the team to
the Region BAA win here Friday
with 25 and 18 points. This, cou
pled with Tony Harris’ 17 re
bounds, brought a big smile to
Coach Bradley’s face. The team
that walloped Burney Harris was
a typical NCHS team playing on
the home court. Center Terry
Green of the B-H team scored
20 points in the game.
Harris, the 6-4 forward on the
NCHS five this season, also had
the top rebound figure at Cum
ming with 10.
Coach Bradley announced that
a change has been made in the im
mediate schedule of Newton High.

January 31 and that will be the

this season, Bradley stated.
Fans who witnessed the home
game Friday saw a change in
Coach Tom Wortman’s starting
lineup. Phyllis Cooksey, who
has been a forward for the past
two years, was moved to a start
ing guard slot, and Martha Ellen
Banks started at forward. Cook
sey did a splendid job in the back
court, and Banks came up with 12
points in the tilt.
Judy Clay had 22 big markers
in the Forsyth game but it wasn’t
enough as the North Georgians
won 53-37. Jackie Matthews was
the high-polnter against Burney
Harris with 18.

Due to circumstances be

there were no Vachons in Cov

There was action from the be

looked like the Professional was
about to take the Mask off the
Mad Russian when a tag was made
and Johnny came from behind and
gave The Pro an elbow stomp that
caused him to be counted out.
