Covington Lions Has New Members
The Covington Lions Club held
Induction services for seven new
members on Feb. 12 at Hender
son’s Restaurant. The new mem
bers are: John Rooks, Paul
Long, B. D. McCoy, Tom Wort
man> Henry Barrow, Tim Evans,
and John Howard. Lion James
Lord, a past president of the
club, handled the Induction cere
mony.
Sponsors of the new members
were Lions: Neal Banks, Terry
Evans and Bill Henderson.
The Covington Lions presently
stand No. 3 in their district which
is composed of 32 clubs. The
president of the Covington Lions
is David Dodd. At the recent
meeting he charged the local
Lions to “Put forth extra effort
and I assure you that we will
end up the year in first place.”
He also made the announcement
that the club would hold their
Annual Crackerjack Sale in
March. Also, scheduled in the
near future is the “ Funniest Show
On Earth”: The Womanless Wed
ding by the Covington Lions.

ucation of the Home Mission
Board in Atlanta, will be at Cal
vary Baptist Wednesday evening
February 26th at 7:30 P.M. to
conduct a mission study on the
mission work of Southern Bap
tist on the Hawaiian Islands.
The Womens Missionary Union
of Calvary Baptist Church has
arranged for this study and the
entire church Mil participate.

us to give faster service and extra care in the finest wheel alignment, brake service, air conditioning,

With our move, we are changing our trade name from Covington Supply Company to Pratt’s Tire and
Appliance Store.
We hope you will find our new location an even more convenient place to visit us and let us fill your
needs. There is plenty of free parking and with our new facilities we are sure you will be happy with
the additional services we can offer.
If you have an active account with us now it will be continued as usual, with payments to be made in the

The Training Center was es
tablished at Fort Benning Sept.
15, 1965, and since December 1965
has graduated more than 150,000
soldiers from basic combat
training.
Private Johnson is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Johnson,
51 N. Broad, Porterdale. He
Is a 1967 gradaute of Newton
County High School and formerly
was employed by Bibb Manufac
turing Company in Porterdale.
Private Johnson has been assign
ed to Fort Polk, La., for ad
vanced training.
Petroleum researchers have

Family’s Home Lost In Fire
Sunday morning, February 16,
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Key and their four children of
Fowler Street, was completely
destroyed by fire. Nothing was
saved in this early morning fire,
and clothing is needed especially
for the children. Also any house
hold furnishings that this family
could use would be appreciated.
At present the Key family is
living at the home of his father,
Luther Key, on Lackey Road.
