Banks Named
Manager Os
Cohen’s Store
It was announced this week
that Neal Banks nas oeen named
General Manager of W. Cohen &
Company department store In
Covington. Banks joined the firm
about 30 years ago as a part
time employee after school hours
and has been affiliated with
Cohen’s since that time, with the
exception of the time he spent
in the Air Force during World
War n.
Mr. Banks is a native of New
ton County and has been a resi
dent of Covington during his adult
life. He is a Lion, having serv
ed as a charter member of the
Covington Lions Clul and was
the charter President. He and
his family are members of the
First United Methodist Church
in Covington, where he has serv
ed on the Board of Stewards of
the church.
He has been active In a great
number of civic activities in the
community for years. His wife,
Mary Parnell Banks, and their
children are Martha Ellen Banks,
John Banks and a married daugh
ter, Mrs. J. W. (Becky) Rutledge.
The 1967 cotton crop was
estimated at a little over 7.6
million bales.

Livingston 4-H
Demonstration
The Livingston 4-H meeting
was called to order by vice
president, Glenda Harvey. Jimmy
Hill read the devotional and Bren
da Wells led in the pledge to
the American Flag. The secre
tary read the minutes; they were
approved ana tne secretary then
called the roll.
Vice-President Glenda Harvey
asked for old and new business;
several things came under old
business, one thing the award
banquet.
New business was school eli
minations, they will be held Feb
ruary 28, at Livingston School
cafeteria.
Glenda Harvey gave a demon
stration on making a pear salad.
Miss Johnson gave a demonstra
tion on money budgets. Gregg
Hamby led the pledge to the 4-H
flag and the meeting was then
adjourned.

Judge Strozier
Had Light City
Court Monday
Monday morning in Covington
City Court was very light in
comparison with the usual Mon
day with Judge E. W. Strozier
on the bench. Other than the
drunk charges lodged against
some 14 persons, other cases
were comparatively few.
One man was charged with
drunkenness and carrying a con
cealed weapon (pistol). He did
not appear for trial and thereby
forfeited his $65.00 cash bond.

Monday, four person were charg
ed with driving under the influ
ence of intoxicants, three for
reckless driving, two for speed
ing, two for driving without a
license, and single cases against
persons charged with resisting
arrest, running a stop sign, and
having an improper tag on an
automobile.

Tourney Notes:
In the sub-region finals at Hart
County Tuesday night, the Frank
lin County girls downed the Hart
County girls downed the Hart
County sextet 37-35 in double
overtime. That means that New
ton County girls will meet Coach
Bill Ensley’s team here in the
Region BAA Finals on Friday,
Feb. 28. In the other game here
Forsyth County will engage
Franklin County.
