Newton Federal Helps High Schools
Newton Federal Savings and
Loan Association this week pre
sented checks for $500.00 to
Newton County High School and
R. L. Cousins High School.
Last year Newton Federal gave
$500.00 scholarships to a
graduate of both Newton County
High School and R. L. Cousins
High School. At the monthly meet
ing of the Board of Directors the
Directors decided this year to
give $500.00 to each school in
stead of to one student and in
this way all the children in each
school would benefit from the
donation.
Under the N.D.E.A. plan of
matching funds each school will

One sad note, at the Press
Institute, Dean Drewery, head
of the Georgia’s Journalism De
partment for many years, in fact
all the years we have attended,
was retiring. Wonder if he real
ly CAN retire? He will live on
In every boy and girl he has
taught down through the years.
He will watch them, and their
work, throughout these United
States, wherever they are. He
will see his fine hand within their
Journalistic careers, and may
really recline In that chair, with
a feeling of..shall we say..." Well
done thou good and faithful ser
vant.” Indeed that is what we
will be saying. To you, Dean
Drewery, we will not only miss
your fine hand in the training
of young people, but we will be
wishing for you and yours, the
happiest years of your lives!
We have one of your graduates
on our staff at the News, and
are proud of his work here. As
the years go by we are sure he
will develop into just what you
wanted him to be. He values
very highly the fact that you were
his Instructor, and holds you in
the highest esteem, as does every
Georgia Newspaper Editor.
Now we must come home and
tell you that Easter Seals Cam
