THE COVINGTON NEWS
| Cub Scout Pack 222 Has A
Delightful Blue-Gold Fete
The Cub Scout Spirit was very
much in evidence on Tuesday eve
ning February 25, as Pack 222
had its Blue and Gold Banquet.
The colors and the theme were
present in the outstanding table
decorations which were made
by the Cubs and their Den Moth
ers for the event. Many varied
and original ideas were used to
project The Cub Scout Spirit,
but greatest of these were the
boys themselves, who dedicated
the entire banquet to the beloved
Akeyla, former Cubmaster of
Pack 222, Mr. George B. Hut
chinson, who’s life so perfectly
exemplified the Scout Spirit.
Cubmaster Billy Laseter wel
comed the nearly 200 Cubs, their
families and friends to Pack 222
and the Rev. Ralph Burton led
in the opening prayer, of thanks
to God.
The delicious dinner, prepar
ed by Mrs. Loyd Alexander and
her staff, was served by the
Cubs and Den Chiefs, with each
boy serving his own family and
aiding in serving the guests of
the Pack. The boys also exer
cised the Cub Scout Spirit by
clearing the dishes from the
table as the meal was finished.
Den 3 led the group in an
impressive Flag Ceremony, af
ter which the group remained
standing as Mrs. Thomas Jay
sang the National Anthem.
The Cubmaster introduced
some of the distinguished guests,
last of which was S. J. Morcock
who delivered a fitting memorial
address; recalHng memories of
our beloved Mr. Hutchinson. The
group then stood for a moment
of silent meditation.
Lewis White, Committeeman,
performed the job of conducting
the Parent Count; and awarded
the Attendance Trophy to Den 4
which had 100% of its parents
present. The Cubmaster chal
lenged Den 4 to try to keep
the trophy next month by again
being 100% in attendance at the
next Pack Meeting.
A Bobcat Investiture for new
Cub Scouts John Byce, Mike Ki
tchens and Buddy Bruce was
conducted by the Cubmaster with
the help of committeeman, Geor
ge Patton. After the boys repeat
ed their Cub Scout Promise the
Cubmaster had all parents join
in a 'promise to be a good Cub
Scout Parent’. The new Bobcat’s
parents were instruction to pin
the boy’s award on upside-down
until the Cub performed a ‘Good
Deed’.
Boys who had recently trans
ferred into Pack 222 were given
a hardy Welcome. They are Glenn
Kellum, and Dennis and David
