11 God's Purposes
If you were having a picnic at the lake
at approximately this spot, you might say,
“Well, why did the engineers leave those
trees in the water when they made this
lake? They create such an eyesore. I can
see no purpose in it.” Yet, fishermen tell
us that the fish love those old tree stumps
and roots and that you can almost always
find fish swimming in the dark recesses
around and between these trees.
So many times we question God’s wis
dom in allowing some things to be and
other things to come to pass. But God is
good and his purposes are wise. The very
thing that seems useless to us, might make
us marvel if we could see with Heaven’s
eyes.
The Church is God's oppointed ogency in this world for spreoding the knowledge of Nit levo
for mon and of His demand for man Io respond to that love by loving his neighbor. Without ' yi
this grounding m the love of God, no government or society or way of life will long
persevere and the freedoms which we hold so dear will inevitably perish. Therefore, even Z I
from a selfish point of view, one should support the Church for Ihe sake of the welfare
of himself and his family. Beyond that, however, every person should uphold and par-
;s;•s tkipate in the Church because it tells the truth about man's life, death and destiny; the ik. CSV" SH

May Have Gl
School Benefits
Veterans discharged after Jan.
31, 1955, today were urged by
the Veterans Administration to
check with their nearest VA of
fice to see if they are eligible
to join the growing number of
veterans going back to school
under the G. I. bill.
A. W. Tate, Manager, Atlanta
Veterans Administration Region
al Office, said that individuals
who received benefits from the
VA to attend college fell off to
less than 44,000 in FY 1966,
when the Korean War G. I. Bill
was dying out, but VA officials
are now looking ahead to having
between 650,000 and 700,000 en
rollees.
College level trainees jumped
from the FY 66 low of 43,468
to 377,171 in 1967 and 456,-
247 in 1968 largely because of the
Post Korean G. I. bill. It is ex
pected that enrollment for the
current fiscal year will top 600,-
000 — the highest total since FY
1951 — and approach 700,000 in
FY 1970.
To be eligible under the G. I.
Bill veterans must have at least
181 consecutive days of active
officer in charge of maintenance
for Headquarters Detachment, Ist
Logistical Command near Long
Binh.
His wife, Wanda, lives on Route

military service with part of that
time after January 1955.
Military personnel with at least
two years of continuous service
are also eligible to attend college
under the G. I. Bill.
Mr. Tate siad that other VA
programs provide college level
benefits to wives, widows and
children of totally and permanen
tly disabled veterans and cer
tain deceased veterans.
Under a 1967 amendment to the
Post Korean G. I. Bill, veterans
are entitled to full benefits to
complete high school ($l3O a
month for a full-time single stu
dent) without losing any college
eligibility.
The VA siad that veterans and
others can get full information at
any of the nation’s 21 Veterans
Assistance Centers as well as
from any VA office.
