Girl Scouts or Newton County
will conduct the program today
(Thursday) at the Covington Ki
wanis Club at the Teen Can build
ing at 1 p. m. This week is
being observed as National Girl
Scout Week across the nation.
Mrs. Barbara Milligan and
Mrs. Jane McCoy, Scout leaders,
will have charge of the program.
Also, several members of the
su^ *s will take part on the
program.
Kiwanlan Jack Meadors is the
program chairman for the week.
Baptist Revival

The music for the revival will
be under the direction of W. Alan
Mitchell, Minister of Music and
Youth at First Baptist Church.
This revival, according to Ed
gar A. Callaway, pastor, will have
the tone and flavor of youth and
will be focused upon both young
people and adults. The church
extends a very cordial invitation
to friends and friends of the Ed
wards family.

Convalescence Center
To Be Built In Covington
Announcement has been made
here by Chapman and Rowe, Inc.,
local real estate agents, that
negotiations and planning for
a Covington Convalescence Cen
ter on Industrial Boulevard will
be started immediately. It will
be built by Fickllng and Walker
of Macon, Georgia. They stated
that the contract has already been
let.
The owner of the proposed fac
ility will be Colan C. Taylor of
Metter, Ga. Mr. Taylor already
operates four nursing homes, and

Covington Home
A fire Wednesday morning at
6:45 almost completely destroyed
the home of Annie Pearl Lewis
and her daughter on Elm Street,
just under the railroad underpass.
Nothing in the home was saved,
according to Rodney Floyd, Fire
Chief of Covington. The home
was owned by Mrs. H. O. Whel
chel and was rented to the oc
cupants.
Thousand (10,000) of the par value
of Ten Dollars ($10.00) per share,
all of which shall be common
stock.
The amount of capital which
the Corporation shall, begin bus
iness, however, shall be not less
than Twenty Thousand ($20,000).
The Corporation shall be autho
rized to issue additional shares
up to the maximum sum above
stated, and thereafter, from time
to time, to reduce the amount
of capital outstanding, but not
below the minimum above stated,
and all of this upon the majority
vote of the Board of Directors.
6.
The time for which the Cor
poration shall have for existence
shall be thirty-five (35) years,
with the privilege of renewal of
the charter from time to time,
upon the expiration of said per
iod.
7.
The County in which the prin
cipal office of the Corporation
is to be located is Newton County,
Georgia, but the privilege is des
ired of establishing branch of
fices and places of business both
within and without the State of
Georgia.
8.
The name and Post Office ad
dress of each of the applicants
for Charter are as follows, to
wit:

burg, Georgia.
W. O. McDowell, Conyers,
Georgia.
H. A. McElvany, Conyers,
Georgia.
9.
Petitioners further desire that
the by-laws of the Corporation
shall be adopted by the common
stockholders, and such by-laws
shall provide for the officers of
the Corporation, the manner of
their selection, and such other
rules appropriate to by-laws,
which have as their purpose the
control and management of the
Corporation, including provisions
whereby the by-laws may be am
ended.
10.
Your petitioners exhibit here
with a certificate of the Secretary
of the State of Georgia,. as
required by Section 22-1803,
Georgia Code Annotated.
WHEREFORE, Petitioners
pray to be incorporated under the
name and style aforesaid with all
the rights, powers, privileges
and immunities herein set forth,
and such additional rights, powers
and privileges as may be
necessary, proper or incident to
the conduct of the business afore
said, and as may be inherent in

Mobil Promotes 3 Employees
Chuck Murphy, Foams Plant
Operations Manager at Mobil
Chemical’s Covington Plant, an
nounced the promotion of three
new supervisors. Promoted to
Production Foreman were Guy
Mitchell, Jr. and Mayion Temple
Wages. Also promoted was Tho
mas G. Thompson who assumed
responsibility as Maintenance
Foreman of the Foams Products
Plant.
These promotions are in pre
paration for additional growth
in production facilities program
ed for 1969. Expansion in the
foam plastic egg carton business
will be a major factor in the
Covington Plant’s immediate
growth. It is expected that near
ly 150 miUion pounds of plastics
will be used for this purpose
alone during 1969 and Mobil Che
mical will be a major participant
in this huge market.

Honor Roll
At the end of the third nine
weeks Newton High students were
honored for their outstanding
scholastic achievements. The
Honor Roll students were as fol
lows:

wood, Hugh Steele, Hamp Vining.
Sophomores: Patrica Allen,

Barbara and James. Prior to
joining Mobil in 1967, Guy had
extensive experience in the tex
tile industry in both maintenance
and production supervision. After
joining Mobil Chemical during the
start-up of the Foams Plant ope
rations, he progressed through
assignments as Lead Operator,
Production Specialist, and As
sistant Plant Trainer before his
present job as Production Fore
man.
Tommy Thompson joined Mo
bil Chemical as the first employ
ee hired for the new Foams Pro
ducts Plant in 1967. He has work
ed as an electrician and Senior
Technician before promotion to
his present position.
Originally from Henry County,
Tommy moved to Covington
where he attended Newton Coun-

served in the U. S. Army Quar
termaster Corps with assign
ments in Germany and Colorado.
Tommy now lives in Newborn,
with wife, Iris, and two children,
Sheryl and Thomas Jr. Prior to
joining Mobil he was employed
by Bibb Manufacturing Company
and Brown Citrus Machinery
Company. He also worked for
Gulf States Construction Com
pany during the construction of
the Mobil Plant facilities.
Temple Wages has been with
Mobil since 1967 when he joined
the company as a production
operator in the new Foams Pro
ducts Plant. Previously he was
employed by Interprise Alumi
num Company of Eatonton.
He is a native of Shadydale,
Ga., and graduate of Monticello
High School in 1961. From
1964 to 1966 he served in the
U. S. Army as a supply special
ist with a tour of duty in Viet
Nam with the 179th Aviation
Company. After the service
he was employed by General
Gas, Inc. and Piggley-Wiggley,
Inc. Temple and his wife, Carole,
now make their home in Shady
dale, Ga.
