|l THE LIGHT I
■B "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
■■ The bible. God's word, has often been compared to a light, for it penetrates the
darkness and reveals God to man. It is the light that leads man down life's
pathway. For those who study it, it reveals not only the past, but also the future.
SS Bn! "^’ e enlrance of *^!f words giueth light; it giueth understanding ..."
g;:-:: Attend church and hear God's leaders expound on His word.
■H The Church is God's appointed agency in B
■ this world for spreading the knowledge of B
■ His love for mon and of His demand for B
■ man to respond to that love by loving his B
■ neighbor Without this grounding in the B
■ love of God, no government or society or B
B way of life will long persevere and the H
M freedoms which we hold so dear will in- H
M evitably perish. Therefore, even from a H
H selfish point of view, one should support H
■ the Church for the sake of the welfare of H
M himself and his family. Beyond that, how- H
B ever, every person should uphold and H
® participate in the Church because it tells H
■ the truth about man's life, death and M
■ destiny; the truth which alone will set him M
H free to live as a child of God.

H-Shaped Posts
A 4xlo-inch beam set over
4x4-inch fir or cedar posts does
a fine job of supporting a patio
roof, but the posts may look a
bit skimpy in proportion. To get
a more solid look and create
interesting H-shaped posts,
dress them with Ixßs on two
sides. Carry the Ixßs up the face
of the beam for best appear
ance.

Spendable Earnings
Increased In June
WASHINGTON - The pur
chasing power of the Nation’s
rank-and-file workers rose in
June despite a substantial In
crease In consumer prices, the
U. S. Department of Labor’s
Bureau of Labor Statistics has
announced.
Gross weekly earnings ad
vanced to a record $115.06,
a gain of $1.58 from May and
$6.86 (6.3 percent) from the
June 1968 level. The over
the-month Increase was at
tributable primarily to a 0.4-
hour rise in the workweek, co
upled with a 1-cent gain in ho
urly earnings. After adjust
ment for price changes, weekly
earnings for all rank-and-file
workers were 0.7 percent above
both the May 1969 and June
1968 levels.
At $100.34, spendable earn
ings (take-home pay) for the
worker with three dependents
surpassed the SIOO mark for the
first time in June, as gains
were posted in all major indus
try sectors. Take-home pay in
creased by $1.21 from May and
$4.79 (5.0 percent) from a
year earlier.
Real spendable earnings—
take-home pay expressed In
1957-59 dollars to take account
of the effect of price changes—
averaged 46 cents higher In June
for the worker with three de
pendents. At $78.64, real ear
nings for a worker with three
dependents were 0.6 percent
above the May level.
