connection with the first state
wide GOP primary In 1968, and
the committee is recommending
that the party make a concerted
effort to hold conventions in all
of the state’s 2,000-plus pre
cincts.
Thurman pointed out that Col
umbus, the proposed state con
vention city, is now the second
largest city in Georgia, and has
elected a Republican mayor, J. R.
Allen.
Wiley A. Wasden, Jr., of Sav
annah, who replaced G. Paul Jo
nes, Jr., of Macon as state GOP
chairman on July 1, will be pre
siding over his first executive
committee meeting.
