Georgia’s 1969-70 Basketball Schedule
ATHENS——The 1969-70 Geor=-
gia basketball schedule has been
announced by Athletic Director
Joel Eaves. The schedule
features up to 26 games, with
12 being listed as home
encounterse.
The reason for the uncertainty
of total games stems from
Georgia’s participation in the
holiday Quaker (City Classic, in
Philadelphia, Pa, Dec. 27-30.
Georgia will definitely play two
games in the tournament, and if
they win the first two, a third,
a final game, Therefore, 25
games will be the minimum
number played.
The home schedule features
such powers as lllinois of the
Big Ten and LSU, Tennessee,
and Kentucky withthe SEC. The
season opener will be a
home game with Sewanee on Dec.
1.
An early seasonencounter with
nationally ranked Davidson
in Charlotte, plus the aforemen
tioned Mlinois and Quaker City
tournament give Georgia one of
its roughest early season slates.
It will be a thorough testing for
Coach Rosemond’s mene.
In 1968-69, the Bulldogs logged
their second consecutive winning
season -a 13-2 mark. They
finished in a fifth place tie with
vVanderbilt in the S,E.C. with 9-9
marks.
As no lettermenwere lostfrom
the 1968-59 team, there is hope
for a better record for the up
coming season, ILeading
returnees include All-America
center, 6-11 Big-Bob Lienhard,
the team?®s scoring leader for
the past two years; 5-11 All-
SEC guard Jerry Epling; and
6-8 forward Cort Nagle. All
are seniors with two years of
experience each which . should
lay the foundation for a solid
club. Junior 5.1 l guard Lanny
Taylor and outstanding 6-6
forward Dick Toth, up from the
’69 frosh are others to whom
Rosemond will be looking for
major contributions.
Looking toward 1969-70,
Rosemond commented: ‘“We lose
no one; therefore we have the
advantage of not having to start
all over again, Everyone will
have a year’s more experience,
and I believe this will help to
shore up the defensive play and
pave the way for more overall
consistency in play,’’

The five losses Coach Ronald
Bradley’s team suffered last
campaign were no disgrace to
our boys. Pike County and Lake
side High of Atlanta were two of
the best teams in the State in
their Class B and AAA classifi
cation last year. Also, the Carver
High team of Atlanta won the
State AA championship in the
tourney. Carver edged NCHS in
the quarter=-finals 66-61.

Two of Ronald Bradley’s bas=
ketball boys of former years are
now coaching nearby high school
teams. They are Richard Moore
at Rockdale County (boys), and
Tony MecClure at Social Circle
(boys and girls). Moore was a
member of Bradley’s Rams in
1958-59, and MecClure was the
team manager that year.
