The Pike County High School wrestling team dominated the Area Traditional tournament, winning by more than 100 points and made history as everyone on the team qualified for the state
meet. Area Champions included Jordan Thompson, Luke Woerner, Gage Lee, Dawson Guest, Malikay Ray, Jakilen King and John Lovett. Everyone on the team will wrestle this week in Macon.
Area Traditional wrestling champions!
The Pike County High
School wrestling team
made school history as
all 14 members qualified
for the state meet.
The team ran away
with the Area 2 AAA tour
nament - winning by more
than 100 points. The
Pirates scored 214 points
and earned first place,
compared to 109 points
by Jackson in second
place and 107 points by
Upson in third place.
There were seven
Area Champions from
Pike, including Jordan
Thompson, Luke Woerner,
Gage Lee, Dawson Guest,
Malikay Ray, Jakilen King
and John Lovett. Finishing
second were Aiden Stan
ley, Kevin Godwin and
Sam Oliver. Placing third
were Charley Harper,
Kaden Norris, Cooper
Jones and Dexter Garner.
Everyone on the team
will wrestle in the state
meet Wednesday and
Thursday at the Macon
Centreplex. Tickets to
the state meet are $13
for a daily pass, plus a $2
facility fee.

Fall 2020 term. Fall term
ran Oct. 6 through Dec. 4.
Sheppard Quavala was
named on the school’s
President’s List. The
President’s List is pub
lished to honor students
who attain the high
est possible academic
standing. To achieve the
President’s List, students
must earn a 3.70 grade
point average or above
for the term while being
enrolled fulltime at GMC.
Desmund Wilkins was
named on the school’s
Dean’s List. The Dean’s
List is published to honor
students who attain high
scholastic standing. To
be placed on the Dean’s
List, students must earn
a 3.20 grade point aver
age or above while being
enrolled fulltime at GMC.
Two honored at

College Fall Semester

To be eligible for this
honor, students must
maintain a cumulative
grade point average of at
least 3.6 while taking a
minimum course load of
12 hours.
Two make Valdosta State Dean's List
More than 2,100
students were named to
Valdosta State Universi
ty’s Fall 2020 Dean’s List,
including two students
from Pike County. Sarah
Chapman of Zebulon and
Aaliyah Bogan of Con
cord earned the Dean’s
List honor.
Dean’s List honors are
reserved for the highest
achieving students at
VSU. To qualify for Dean’s
List at VSU, students
must achieve a semester
grade point average of
3.50 or higher with an
institutional grade point
average of 3.00 or higher.
Local Gordon athletes excel
academically in fall 2020
Gordon State Col
lege Athletics recently
announced 38 student-
athletes - including two
from Pike County - were
honored on the Dean’s
List for the fall 2020
semester, including 11
women and men on the
baseball, softball and
women’s soccer teams
who earned a perfect
4.0 grade-point average
for the term.
Haley Jones of Wil
liamson earned the
honor on the women’s
soccer team and Bre-
anna Lee of Concord
earned the honor on
the softball team.
The GSC softball
team led the way with
13 student-athletes
making the Dean’s List,
which requires a 3.50
GPA or better during
the academic term. The
Highlanders’ women’s
soccer team placed 11
student-athletes on the
academic honor roll.
John Flowers graduates from
Georgia Institute ofTechnology
The Georgia Insti
tute of Technology
presented degrees to
around 3,800 under
graduate and graduate
students who earned
their degrees during
the Fall 2020 semester,
including one from Pike
County.
The students rec
ognized during the
Institute’s 259th Com
mencement exercises at
Bobby Dodd Stadium.

minimum GPA of 2.0
for all classes taken at
Georgia State.
