Wednesday, February 24, 2021 - Pike County Journal Reporter - Page 3A Library to celebrate Read Across America in March During the month of March, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library will celebrate Read Across America month along with schools and libraries across the country. During the nation’s largest celebration of literacy, children in Pike County will be invited to join the library in a month-long reading chal lenge to celebrate the importance of reading and the birthday of one of the most prolific chil dren’s authors in Ameri can history, Dr. Seuss. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to stop by the library and pick up a reading log that will be used to Read Across America keep track of each hour spent reading, including e-books and listening to audiobooks. For every five hours read, participants can stop by the library and pick up an awesome Seuss-inspired prize with the goal of reading 15 hours total through out the month. Reading logs can also be found on the library’s Face- book page and printed off at home. Participants should turn completed logs into the library by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 31. The library will also host two Take & Make craft kits on March 3 and 17 to go along with Read Across America month and will also host a coordinating Facebook virtual event, Cooking with Kids, on March 30 at 4 p.m. For more informa tion about how the library will celebrate Read Across America month, follow the J.
