Library to celebrate Read Across America in March
During the month
of March, the J. Joel
Edwards Public Library
will celebrate Read
Across America month
along with schools and
libraries across the
country.
During the nation’s
largest celebration of
literacy, children in Pike
County will be invited
to join the library in a
month-long reading chal
lenge to celebrate the
importance of reading
and the birthday of one
of the most prolific chil
dren’s authors in Ameri
can history, Dr. Seuss.
Children in grades
kindergarten through
fifth grade are invited
to stop by the library
and pick up a reading
log that will be used to
Read Across
America
keep track of each hour
spent reading, including
e-books and listening to
audiobooks.
For every five hours
read, participants can
stop by the library and
pick up an awesome
Seuss-inspired prize
with the goal of reading
15 hours total through
out the month. Reading
logs can also be found
on the library’s Face-
book page and printed
off at home. Participants
should turn completed
logs into the library by 5
p.m. Wednesday, March
31.
The library will also
host two Take & Make
craft kits on March 3
and 17 to go along with
Read Across America
month and will also host
a coordinating Facebook
virtual event, Cooking
with Kids, on March 30
at 4 p.m.

“When 1 decided to
run for school board
almost 10 years ago, 1
did it to be a voice for
the students and faculty
of this school system. 1
have had the pleasure
of working with some of
the most wonderful edu
cators and staff during
this time. 1 have been
blessed to work with
one of the finest school
boards in the state,”
Edge said in his letter of
resignation. “1 commit
ted to doing what is best
for the students and fac
ulty of the Pike School
System. With that, 1 feel
1 need to step aside at
this point during my
time. 1 will forever be
thankful for the opportu
nity to serve and for the
friendships made. 1 pray
for the continued suc
cess of the Pike County
School System.”
