PCHS FFA students take top spots in livestock showing

The Pike County High
School’s FFA Livestock Show
Team has been busy recently
with several shows and lo
cal students have earned top
marks.
Carter Steele won the Grand
Champion and Champion
Senior Showman at the Mid-
GA Market Hog Show. He was
also Reserve Champion at Hog
Heaven on Highway 11.
Miley Dysart won her show
manship division at the last
two shows and she and Carter
racked up four belts in one
week between the two of them.
“The rest of the team has
had multiple class winners
and placings and have been
doing awesome,” said Chanda
Steele. “We are so proud of all
the work they have put in this
season.”

was unable to play any
fall scrimmages due to
the ongoing COVID-19
pandemic, but the team
did get in practice time,
intra-squad scrimmages
and some new players
in preparation for the
upcoming 2021 season.
“Since the abbrevi
ated 2020 season, we’ve
added a very talented
freshman class and our
expectations for this
spring have already
exceeded last year’s,”
said GSC head coach
Ally Hattermann, who is
entering her 22nd year
leading the Highlanders.
“Every day this team
steps on the field, they
really appreciate it and
1 know we will definitely
put a very good product
on the field this spring.”

Breanna Lee (.393, .679
slugging percentage, two
HRs, four doubles and
three triples) from Con
cord, Ga. (Pike County
High School), left fielder
Makenzie English (.407,
10 RBI and seven stolen
bases) from Williamson
(PCHS) who collected
GCAA Player-of-the-Week

is also a team tri-captain
and newcomer for the
2021 season Kylee
Housman, a freshman
outfielder from Zebulon
(PCHS).
“We know what it
feels like to have the sea
son and some careers
end so abruptly that we
are taking nothing for
granted,” said Lee, team
tri-captain for 2021. “We
are doing what it takes
to be able to play.”
GSC played their first
six games of the 2021
season on the road but
will return to Barnesville
for their home-opener on
Feb. 25 in a 2 p.m. dou
bleheader with Southern
Union State Community
College (Ala.).

Month for January.
Each month, the pri
mary school recognizes
Students of the Month
from each homeroom
class. The students are
chosen for their contri
butions to the school and
community and for being
caring, energetic stu
dents and good role mod
els for other students.
Jacob Chandler earns agribusiness degree
A total of 245 stu
dents graduated from
Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College in
the 2020 fall semester,
including one student
from Pike.
Jacob Chandler Weav
er received a Bachelor
of Science degree in
Agribusiness.
ABAC President
David Bridges said 118
graduates received
bachelor’s degrees.
Locals earn Dean's List honors at Georgia State
Georgia State Uni
versity recently named
outstanding students to
the Fall 2020 semester
Dean’s List, including
several from Pike.
Local students who
earned the Dean’s List
honor include Antonio
Brittian of Concord who
is majoring in pre-film
and media, Jordan Hol
ley of Williamson who
is majoring in pre-ac
counting, Megan Todd
of Williamson who is
majoring in HS: Health
Science Professions,
Sean Staley of Con
cord who is majoring
in computer science,
Haylee Medve of Wil
liamson who is studying
exploratory and Vassili
Winkler of Molena who
is majoring in business
economics.
To be eligible for the
Dean’s List, students
must have earned a GPA
of at least 3.5 during the
fall or spring term with
no incomplete courses.
Christopher Davis earns honors at Shorter University
Shorter University
recently announced
students named to the
dean’s list during the fall
semester of 2020. Chris
topher Davis of Zebulon,
who is majoring in gen
eral business, is among
those who earned the
Fall 2020 dean’s list.
To achieve this honor,
students must be en
rolled full time and have
earned at least a 3.5
grade point average.
First grade Students of the Month for January included Avyn Akins, Emma Gregory, Wyatt Elli
son, Charleigh Clark, Corban Maddox, Adeline Carmichael, Andrew Cates, Marley Scott, Kinsley
Henry, Parker Hutchison, Pyper Valeich and Auria Willis.
Second grade Students of the Month for January included Hunter Ervin, Kenley Millwood, Owen
Black, Oliver Jett, Austyn Clower, Cooper Johnston, Annistyn Sutton, Caroline Loveless, Audrey
Lake Riddle and Lily Harrison. Not pictured is Jaxon Whitfield.
