Lady Pirates basketball makes it to playoffs
The Pike County High
School girls basketball
team played hard all
season and advanced
to the state playoffs in
Savannah.
The team went 11-9
for the season and were
coached by John Kovzel
and Melissa Whitley.
“We had a very chal
lenging schedule this
year and we finished
third in the toughest
region in the state,” said
next season.”
The Lady Pirates

It was the
first time for
the team to
make it to the
state playoffs
during his tenure.
“We lost in the first
round state playoffs in
Savannah but
they worked
extremely
hard to
make it
that far,”
he said.
“This
team is
very special.
We had just
one senior, how
ever, she played a
key role. We will have a
lot of returning players

graduated Feb. 19, 2021
from United States
Marine Corps boot
camp at MCRD Parris
Island after successfully
completing 13 weeks of
intensive basic train
ing. While in recruit
training, PFC Totten
achieved Expert Marks
man.
Dalton is a 2018
graduate of Pike County
High School. He is the
son of Jimmy and Beth
Totten and Darlene and
Andrew Jones, both
of Pike County. Dalton
is the grandson of
Jim and Teri Totten of
Pike County and Leon
O’Rear and the late Bar
bara O’Rear of Jasper,
Alabama.
