The Picture Of Peace
“Tltough the mountains he shaken and the hills be moved,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my cove
nant of peace be removed,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:10
A gentleman once searched for the perfect picture that represented peace.
Unable to find it, he decided to have a contest between artists. Who would create
the perfect picture of peace? Many submissions poured in, each one concealed
behind a cloth.
On the day of the contest, a large crowd gathered. Each masterpiece was un
covered, until only two remained. The first of the remaining two was revealed. A
mirror-smooth lake reflected lacy, green birches under the soft brushed evening
sky. A flock of sheep grazed, along the grassy shore.
Then, the crowd gasped, as the last masterpiece was revealed. A tumultuous
waterfall cascaded down a rocky precipice. Stormy clouds looked as if they would
explode with lightening, wind and rain. A weakened tree clung to the rocks at
the edge of the fall. A little bird had built her nest in the elbow of one of the
tree’s branches, she rested on her eggs, content and undisturbed by her stormy
surrounding. She represented peace, despite of the earthly turmoil all around her.
When the storms of life are raging all around us, we can have this kind of peace
in Jesus.
