Ashley Jeffery signs track
and field scholarship
Ashley Jeffery signed
a track and field schol
arship on March 29 with
family and friends in
attendance at the Pike
County High School
cafeteria. She plans to
major in athletic train
ing and earned the
scholarship for her
discus throwing skills.
“Ashley will be
attending Piedmont
College in Demorest.
The school will be mov
ing from a college to a
university in late April
so she will be attending
Piedmont University,”
said PCHS track coach
Clay Woerner. “Pied
mont has a program
that will allow Ashley
to continue on and get
her masters degree. It’s
like God had his hand
in what you are doing
Ashley and this sounds
like a really good fit. I’m
so proud of you for all
you have done to get
here.”
Ashley’s personal
best record for throw
ing discus is 69 feet, 9
inches and she started
track as an eighth
grader, following her
brother and sister into
the sport. She also
played volleyball for
Pike County High School
for all four years, earn
ing her varsity letter in
her sophomore year as
a setter.
Ashley is an active
member of FCA and at
tends Life Springs UMC
where she has been on
several mission trips.
“We are here to cel
ebrate her throwing but
also the fact that she
knows the Lord,” said
coach Woerner. “It’s
important that you keep
the Lord at your center
and everything else will
work out the way it’s
supposed to. I’m proud
of you and wish you
the best in your future
as far as athletics and
everything else.”
Ashley is looking
forward to attending
Piedmont and is excited
that the track program
there will give her the
opportunity to learn to
throw javelin which is
not a sport offered at
the local high school
level.
“The coach at Pied
mont was very kind and
reminded me a lot of
one of my close friends
Tommy Polnaszek. It
made the school seem
like home to me and
they have a pathway
for athletic training that
was everything 1 need
ed,” said Ashley.
She is the daughter of
Chuck and Julie Jeffery
and the sister of Aman
da Jeffery who is set to
graduate from Brewton-
Parker in December
and Dylan Jeffery who
is set to graduate from
Asbury Theological
Seminary in July.
