Wednesday, April 28, 2021 - Pike County Journal Reporter - Page 5A PHOTO BY CALVIN WAKEFIELD Although it may seem unusual to see young wildlife alone in the wild, it is best to leave them where their parents left them. Leave wildlife in the wild In the spring, it is not unusual to see young wildlife that appear to be alone. Before you attempt to help, remember that it is best to leave wildlife where you find them, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Re sources Division (WRD). “When you take wild life out of their environ ment and bring them into your home, it often takes away that animal’s ability to then survive in the wild, where they belong,” explains Kaitlin Goode, program manager of the Georgia WRD Urban Wild life Program. “In most in stances, there is an adult animal a short distance away - even though you may not be able to see it. Adult animals, such as deer, spend most of the day away from their young to reduce the risk of a predator finding the young animal.” The best thing people can do when they see a young animal is to leave it exactly as they found it for at least 24 hours. If the animal is still there after this time period, reach out to the local WRD office for guidance at GeorgiaWildlife.com/ about/contact. Young wildlife demand a great deal of care and have specific nutritional requirements. If they are not cared for properly, they will not be releas able or retain the ability to survive on their own. Persons not licensed and trained in wildlife rehabili tation should not attempt to care for wildlife. In fact, Georgia law prohib its the possession of most wildlife without a permit. For more information, go to GeorgiaWildlife.com and click on “Living With Wildlife” or contact the local Wildlife Resources Division office at Geor- giaWildlife.com/about/ contact. Rest In God, The Almighty “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” Psalms 91:1 This is the chorus of a song a friend wrote. May these words bring us comfort in these very trying times. You're my Joy - You’re my peace, you’re my comfort in time of need You’re my refuge - you’re my rock you’re the one I depend on You’re the road to hope when the light grows dim When the waves of doubt come crashing in You’re my anchor in the troubled storm Almighty God! It may not always be happy times. Happiness comes from circumstances, but Joy comes from You, Lord. You are my Joy, and even in these trying times You can give me peace that surpasses all understanding. I don’t know what the future holds, but it brings me peace and comfort knowing that You hold the future. You’re my refuge - No matter how bad things are, You’re my rock and my safe place where I know I can run to. No matter how dark things seem, Jesus, You, are always the light. Though the storms of life rages, You are my anchor in the troubled storms. You Are Almighty God!
