Nominations sought
for officer, firefighter
and EMT of the year
Pike County Ameri
can Legion Post 197 is
sponsoring and seeking
nominations for the Pike
County Law Enforce
ment, Firefighter and
Emergency Medical
Technician (EMT)/
Paramedic of the
Year Awards.
To be eligible
for the awards,
nominees must be
currently serving
in law enforcement
organizations (such
as sheriff’s office,
police depart
ment, Georgia
Department
of Public
Safety, Bureau
of Investigations
or Department of Cor
rections), firefighting
organization (county or
city fire department or
volunteer fire depart
ment) or Emergency
Medical Service or Fire
Department Paramedic
organization/team.
Candidates must either
reside or serve in Pike
County Requests for nom
ination should include
current resident address,
location of duty/service,
current title, rank and job
description, past posi
tions/titles with dates,
degrees and training
(schools or academies),
community volunteer
activities and names of
family members.
“Most of these
items can be pulled
from a good resume.
The nominating
person needs to
explain why this
person deserves to
be recognized,” said
Bryan Richardson
of American Legion
Post 197. “Lastly,
the nominat
ing person
needs to
include
phone num
ber and/or email
address for potential
coordination. Nomina
tion packets can be
emailed to Bryan Rich
ardson, Post Historian at

no later than Sept. 26.
Contacts will be quickly
notified if their nominee
has been selected.”
The Award Ceremony
will be conducted at 6
p.m. on Oct. 13 at Pike
County American Legion

Liz Fordham who have
worked hard to raise
money and secure pre
and post game meals and
all the organization that
goes into preparing for
the season.
“Between the school
district and the Touch
down Club we were able
to get every player the
new Schutt F7 helmet
which we are super
excited about,” said
coach Webber. “We have
had a few changes with
the coaching staff. Craig
Chatman has been hired
to coach RBs and QBs.
His father Carlton Chap
man will coach WRs and
Adam Collins is coaching
the OL. Dylan Parker has
moved from RBs to DL
coach. Bryan Holley is
returning as our OC and
John Kovzel is returning
as our DB coach.”

Williamson resident and artist Keith Edmondson holds a painting of his that shows the
Zebulon Depot with a train on the tracks and citizens either bidding each other goodbye
or waiting on others to arrive. His incredible works of art will be on display at the J. Joel
Edwards Public Library throughout the month of August.

Edmondson appreci
ates history and is
helping bring some of
Pike County’s iconic
locations back to life by
painting scenes of how
they used to appear.
Several of his paint
ings will be on display
at the J. Joel Edwards
Public Library during the
month of August. Some
of the local historic
scenes that Keith has
painted include Barnes-
ville Street in Zebulon
during the 1920s, show
ing the current Journal
Reporter office on the
southeast corner of the
courthouse square, the
train depot in Williamson
from the 1950s and the
Red Oak Creek covered
bridge just a few miles
over the Pike line.
