GASES: Of COVID-19 continue to
rise in Pike, some schools closed

Pike County has had
1,435 confirmed cases,
32 deaths, 15 probable
deaths and 95 hospi
talizations since the
pandemic started.
More than 5 million
Georgia residents have
received the COVID-19
vaccine with 43% fully
vaccinated and 50%
having at least one dose
of vaccine.
In Pike, 27% of citi
zens - or 4,950 residents
- are fully vaccinated
with 31% having at least
one dose.
The vaccine is avail
able at retail locations,
doctor’s offices and the
Pike County Health De
partment on Tuesdays.

PIKE COUNTY BOARD OF APPEALS
MONTHLY MEETING
6:00 p.m. September 16, 2021
The Pike County Board of Appeals will conduct its scheduled monthly meeting on September
16,2021 at 6:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Pike County Courthouse located at 16001 Barnes-
ville Street, Zebulon, Georgia. The Board will conduct PUBLIC HEARINGS on the following
items:
(1) Special Exception application SE-21-04. Joseph Gosman, owner, and Ashlee Fen
nell, applicant are requesting permission via special exception to operate a general home occupa
tion located at 19556 Highway 18, Zebulon, GA 30295. The subject property is further identified
as Parcel ID: 091-004F. It consists of 23.55 acres of land and has approximately 686 feet of front
age along GA Hwy 18. The nature of the proposed general home occupation is a pet grooming
spa. General Home occupations in the A-R zoning district are permissible via the special ex
ception process only. The public is invited to attend to speak in favor or in opposition of the
request. The BOA will forward a recommendation to the BOC for final decision.
The Pike County Board of Commissioners will conduct a PUBLIC HEARING on September
28, 2021 at 6:30 pm at the Pike County Courthouse located at 16001 Barnesville Street, Zebulon,

Lady Pirates add wins to record
The Lady Pirates added
two wins to their 5-2
record last week as they
shut out Peach County,
defeated Mary Persons
and lost to Upson-Lee in a
last inning heartbreaker.
The Lady Pirates domi
nated Mary Persons 164
Aug. 26 at home as Shelby
Duncan started off scoring
in the first with a double
and added two homers in
the third and fourth. The
home team scored eight
runs in the second inning,
one in the third and five
in the fourth, only allow
ing Mary Persons to score
three in the second and
one in the third. With 15
hits, Jamie Corbin, Shelby
Duncan, Callie Williams,
Bailee Brown and Alana
Crenshaw each had mul
tiple hits in the game. Tori
Shelby
Duncan hits
one of two
homeruns
against the
Upson-
Lee Lady
Knights
last week.
She hit
two more
homeruns
just two
days later
against
Mary Per
sons.
Dilbeck earned the win,
allowing six hits and four
runs over three innings
and striking out one. Faith
Stowers threw one inning
in relief.
The Lady Pirates faced
Peach County Aug. 24
as two pitchers worked
together to lead the team
to an 11-0 victory. Jamie
Corbin pitched four in
nings, allowed no runs
and struck out three. Han
nah Davidson threw one
inning to close the game.
The Lady Pirates offense
dominated with 14 hits in
the game as Emma Smith,
Madi Neal, Maddie Brown
and Shelby Duncan all had
multiple hits.
Upson-Lee surprised
the Lady Pirates with a
walk off win on Aug. 23
after both teams had
explosive offensive games.
The game was tied at 11
with Upson-Lee batting in
the bottom of the seventh
when a single scored the
winning run for the Lady
Knights. The Lady Pirates
had trailed by seven runs
in the fourth inning but
fought back to tie up the
game in the top of the
sixth inning as six runs
were scored. The Lady
Pirates had 13 hits as
Shelby Duncan went 3-for-
3 with homers in the first
and third and Madi Neal
and Bailee Brown also
had multiple hits. Faith
Stowers started for the
Lady Pirates, going three
innings and allowing nine
runs on 10 hits, striking
out three and walking one.
Tori Dilbeck threw three
innings in relief.
