COVID-19: Vaccine received by
10 million Georgia residents

There have been
more than 10 million
vaccines administered
in the state of Georgia
with 45% of citizens
fully vaccinated and
52% having at least one
dose.
Since the pandemic
started, there have been
36 COVID-19 related
deaths in Pike County, a
total of 1,692 confirmed
cases, 16 probable
deaths and 103 hospital
izations.

The Pike County
Republican Party meets
on the second Tuesday
of the month at 6 p.m.
at the Strickland Build
ing at 144 Main Street in
Concord. Participants
heard the State of the
Nation address by Drew
Ferguson and from Lt.
Gov. candidate Burt
Jones during the Sept.
7 meeting. The meet
ing was nearly at max
capacity.
“It was an outstand
ing crowd, and it was
an honor to be in Pike
County,” said Burt
Jones. “I’m going to
work hard to earn every
vote in Pike County, and
look forward to being
back soon!”

F. King announced Tues
day, Sept. 7 that a Pike
County fire was intention
ally set. The fire was set
at approximately 9:45
p.m. on Sept. 1 on Second
Street in Concord and
severely damaged the
59-year-old, 1080-square-
foot building.
“The Pike County
Fire Department arrived
on scene to find flames
coming from the front of
the structure,” said Com
missioner King. “Upon
investigation, it was
determined that the fire
originated in the living
room of the residence.
Anyone with information
about this Pike County
fire is invited to call my
Fire Investigations Unit at
1-800-282-5804.”
Commissioner King’s
Fire Investigations Unit is
assisting the Pike County
Fire Department and Pike
County Sheriff’s Office
with this investigation.
In coordination with the
State Fire Investigations
Unit, a reward of up to
$10,000 is offered by
Georgia Arson Control
for information that leads
to the arrest and convic
tion of those responsible
for arson.

states in late March,
gave a speech concern
ing the achievements of
this conference and then
journeyed from Washing
ton DC to the Little White
House and was staying
there in Warm Springs on
April 12, 1945 when he
had passed away.”
James lives with his
wife of 37 years, Me
linda Fowler in northern
Pike County. He can be

In January 2020, Geor
gia Humanities agreed
to be the sponsor of the
documentary and Georgia
State University TV agreed
to provide the technical
expertise necessary to
create the film. Filming
began in September, 2020,
in locations through
out Georgia. LaGrange,
Gainesville, Athens,
Atlanta, Warm Springs,
Thomaston, Barnesville as
well as Harris, Meriwether
and Upson counties are
all featured in the film.
Using drone photography
and location shooting,
combined with archival
photos and historical film
clips, A President in Our
Midst brings to viewers a
contemporary image of
life during the period 1921
to 1945.
Financing for the film
was privately raised
through public donations.
In addition, the combined
talents of over 70 Geor
gians helped create the
finished product. Carol
Howington Cain, James
Fowler and Bill Murray are
featured performers in the
documentary. Oral history
narratives from a variety
of Georgians whose lives
and institutions were
profoundly shaped by
FDR and the New Deal in
Georgia are also featured.
This most consequential
of stories will be present
ed to a new generation of
Georgians.
The documentary
received two awards from
the Southern Film Festival,
held in LaGrange. The
documentary was named
the best feature docu
mentary and received the
People’s Choice Award.
