ect, stating that Macon
Asphalt started patching
work on Sept. 7 and if the
weather cooperates, the

the latest.

Gerald Larkey honored at Georgia
Southwestern State University
Gerald Larkey, a
resident of Zebulon, was
honored on the Summer
2021 Academic Achieve
ment List at Georgia
Southwestern State Uni
versity and was among
437 students who were
recognized for scholastic
achievement.
To be eligible for the
Academic Achievement
List, a student must pre
viously earn at least 12
credit hours at GSW, be
enrolled in 3 to 11 hours
of courses, and earn a 3.5
or higher GPA.

List at Kennesaw State University
More than 900 stu
dents were named to
the Summer 2021 Dean’s
List at Kennesaw State
University, including stu

each earned the Dean’s
List honor.
To qualify for the
Dean’s List, students
must earn a GPA of 3.5

OBITUARIE
Johnnie “Driver” Crews
Mr. Johnnie Sanford Crews, age 68, of Zebulon,
passed away September 6, 2021. He was born in Grif
fin, son of the late Lewis Sanford Crews and Myra
Ann Goodman Crews. In his
early career he drove trucks
for Transis, then operated
his own business, Crews
Service Station on Meri
wether Street in Griffin, and
later for Concrete Supply
in Fayetteville, where he re
tired. Johnnie enjoyed auto
painting, fishing, golfing, go-
cart racing, and most of all
he loved dancing. He was
outgoing, happy and liked
to have a good time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his brother, Billy Crews, niece, Melissa
Crews and sister-in-law, Linda Crews.
He is survived by his children: Lou Ann Gardner
(Gary), Heather Rogers (Wes), Kyna Strickland (Seth),
Robin Martin, Jeffery Crews (Angie), and Devin
Crews; grandchildren: Bradley Gardner (Hannah),
Savannah Robinson (Wyatt), Hunter Kenway, Jordan
Rogers, Keaton Strickland, Levi Strickland, Kaden
Martin, Aaliya Martin, Conner Crews, Jesse Crews and
Lucas Crews; brothers: Doug Crews (Julie Kilgo), Mike
Crews and Kenny Crews (Mary Jo); and several nieces
and nephews.
An outdoor viewing was held on Tuesday, Septem
ber 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. under the north portico at the
funeral home.
A graveside service followed on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
in Moody Memorial Gardens with Rev. Randy Gardner
officiating.
The family asked for everyone to wear a face mask
and social distance.
Moody-Daniel Funeral Home assisted the family
with arrangements.
Mike Roark Sr.
Mr. Robert Michael “Mike” Roark Sr., age 63, of Con
cord, passed away September 8, 2021, at Piedmont
Henry Hospital.
Mike was born on June
16, 1958, in Atlanta, son of
the late Roswold C. Roark
and the late Mary Gregory
Roark. He retired from
Kroger with 35 years of
service, and for the past 11
years, he was a bus driver
for Pike County Schools. He
enjoyed fishing and was an
avid golfer with the Cedars
and Cabin Creek groups.
Mike was a dedicated
Father and PawPaw and a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Jackie Roark.
Survivors include his children and their spouses,
Bobby and Robin Roark of Newnan, Linda Mines of
Concord, Heather Roark of Concord, Andrew and Kay
la Roark of Williamson; grandchildren, Kaleb Mines,
Jaxson Mines, Victoria Roark, Bob Rad, Andrew “A.J”
Roark Jr., Braxten Roark; brother-in-law and sisters-
in-law, Kenny and Marie Woods of Ellijay and Barbara
Woods of Germany.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday, Septem
ber 16, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September
17, 2021 at 12 noon in the chapel of Moody-Daniel
Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
the Hanger Foundation, 10910 Domain Drive, Suite
300, Austin, TX 78758, in memory of Mike.

Bobby “Bob”
Glenn McCombs
Rev. Bobby “Bob” Glenn McCombs, age 88, God’s
faithful servant, went to be with his Heavenly Father
Friday, September 3, 2021. Bob was born October
27, 1932 in Birmingham,
Alabama to John Earl and
Elizabeth Glenn McCombs.
He was married on Decem
ber 26, 1954 to Dorothy
“Dot” Claire Funderburk of
Tallassee, Alabama at the
First Baptist Church of Syl-
acauga, Alabama where Dot
was the church secretary.
Bob and Dot were gradu
ates of Samford University
(formerly Howard College)
in Birmingham, Alabama.
He graduated with a double major in English and
Secondary Education. He is also a graduate of the
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville,
Kentucky where he received a Master of Divinity and
a Master of Theology in Pastoral Care and Psychology
of Religion.
Bob was a pastor of Baptist churches for nearly 50
years. Bob believed that every person was created
by God and was important and special and that God
sent them here with a purpose. Bob always wanted to
bless and be a blessing to others and lived his life in a
manner that made others feel “extra special.”
He served his first church in Florala, Alabama as
a college student. In seminary, he served a church in
Elizabethtown, Kentucky. After he graduated from
seminary, he came to Georgia where he served Jones
Creek Baptist Church in Ludowici, Georgia. He then
served at First Baptist Church in Warm Springs, Geor
gia. Bob retired at age 67 on December 31, 1999 from
his formal ministry career after serving as pastor of
Concord Baptist Church in Concord, Georgia for 31
years. After retirement Bob was honored as “Pastor
Emeritus” by Concord Baptist Church. Bob never
truly retired from pastoring, ministering and witness
ing to others.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Jack
Perry McCombs; brother, Donald Ray McCombs; and
brother, John Russell McCombs.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years,
Dorothy Claire Funderburk McCombs; his son, Jon
Randal McCombs (Gina); his daughter, Wendy King
(Scott); grandson, Christopher Glen McCombs
(Lacee); grandson, Tyler Douglas King. He will be
missed by several generations of nieces and nephews
and extended family of loving congregants.
The family received friends via a drive-through me
morial at 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September
11 at Bob and Dot’s residence in Concord.
A graveside Celebration of Life service was held at
2 p.m., Saturday, September 11 for those who wished
to attend at Old Hebron Cemetery off Strickland Rd.,
Concord, GA. As a precaution, those attending were
asked to social distance from others.

Wanda Corbin
Mrs. Wanda Belle Smith Corbin, age 85, of Zebulon,
passed away September 1, 2021, at her home. She was
born in Elwood, IL, and raised in Chuckey, TN, daugh
ter of the late Vernon Craw
ford Smith, Sr. and Pearl
Margaret Bell Smith. Mrs.
Corbin was a homemaker,
a loving and selfless wife,
mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and caregiver.
She loved to cook, travel
and go camping.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband of 65
years, Emitt Paul Corbin,
Jr., her son, Melvin Emitt
Corbin, sisters, Jeanette
Fleenor, Shirley Ware, Doris Hensley, Linda Simpson
and her brother, Vernon Smith.
She is survived by her children: Deborah Corbin
Hayes (Sonny) of Barnesville, Vickie Corbin Escar-
sega (Joel) of Denton, TX, Randy Corbin (Michelle)
of Pike County, and Rhonda Corbin Harwell (Rusty)
of Zebulon; grandchildren: Michelle Hayes (Michael),
Paul Hayes (Regina), Michael Corbin (Victoria),
Alexis Corbin, Morgan Corbin, Brandy Rose (Gage),
Colby Rose, Kimberly, Jackson and Joe Escarsega,
Jason Corbin (Mandy), Breanna Corbin, Lulu Corbin,
Jamie Corbin, Rebecca Daley (Jim) and J. R. Harwell;
great-grandchildren: Isley Hayes, Emily Rose, Allen
Faulkner, Braxton Rose, Lilly Rose and Lila Corbin;
sister: Joyce Holthaus (Mark), niece: Dawn Phillips
(Jerry); and nephew: James Simpson (Amanda).
Friends visited the family on Saturday, September 4
from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial ser
vice followed at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moody-Daniel
Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Harwell officiating.
