Innovation SmartLab opens at Rock Springs
Rock Springs Chris
tian Academy recently
announced the grand
opening of its new in
novation lab.
“RSCA is extremely
thankful for Rock
Springs Church, parents,
and generous donors
that have made this
possible,” said Marlee
Albrecht of RSCA. “Be
cause of their generos
ity, RSCA was able to
expedite the planning
process and begin using
the lab at the beginning
of the school year. This
is the first high school
innovation lab of its kind
in the state of Georgia.”
The lab provides a
multi-faceted creative
learning environment
and prepares students
for numerous technol
ogy fields in the real
world.
A ribbon cutting to
celebrate the finished
construction of the lab
will take place on Sept.
29 at 2 p.m. and is open
to the public.
“RSCA understands
that higher education
and modern workplace
success requires that
students are able to
master next genera
tion skills. These skills
include communication,
collaboration, critical
thinking, problem solv
ing, information literacy,
and adaptability. By bal
ancing traditional aca
demics and implanting
new ways of learning,
Rock Springs Christian
Academy is able to be
impactful by making a
difference for students,”
said Albrecht. “RSCA’s
goal is to reach children
for the Kingdom of God.
Having the opportunity
to build this innovation
lab has opened more
technology opportuni
ties and placed us on a
path to introduce vari
ous cutting edge career
paths to our students.”

New distribution process announced for COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Treatments in Georgia by DPH
The federal govern
ment has changed the
way COVID-19 monoclo
nal antibody treatments
will be distributed in the
U.S., including in Georgia.
The decision announced
by the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Ser
vices (HHS) is the result
of supply shortages and
extraordinary demand for
the treatments across the
country, particularly due
to the rapid spread of the
delta variant, according
to the Georgia Depart
ment of Public Health.
Health care providers
will no longer be able
to order the treatments
directly. HHS will deter
mine each state’s weekly
allocation of monoclonal
antibody products based
on use and the number
of new COV1D cases. The
Georgia Department of
Public Health (DPH) will
identify which sites in
the state will receive the
product and the amount
each site receives. Health
care providers must re
cord their administration
of the products in order
to be eligible to receive
additional shipments.
DPH will work to pro
vide monoclonal anti
body treatments quickly
and equitably to as many
Georgia providers as
possible. The depart
ment will also address
the backlog of requests
previously made to HHS.
Monoclonal antibodies
are synthetic, laboratory-
created antibodies. They
help people at high risk
for severe COV1D illness,
individuals who have
recently tested positive
(within 10 days) for the
virus, or people who are
close contacts of persons
who have tested positive
for COV1D. They do not
teach a patient’s body
how to create its own
antibodies. Monoclonal
antibody treatments are
not a replacement for
COVID-19 vaccination ac
cording to the DPH.
“We have safe and
highly effective vaccines
to protect against CO
VID-19. It is much easier
to get a vaccine than risk
becoming seriously ill
with life threatening com
plications,” said Kathleen
E. Toomey, M.D., M.P.H.,
commissioner of the
Georgia DPH.
To find a vaccination
location, log on to dph.
georgia.gov/covid-vaccine.
There are 136 locations in
Georgia where monoclo
nal antibody treatments
are administered.
