Newspaper Page TextPage 6B - Pike County Journal Reporter - Wednesday, November 3, 2021 14 bands'March the Plank'in Pike The Pirate Regiment Marching Band hosted the third March the Plank competition on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Pike County football stadium with 14 different high school marching bands from around the state competing and an exhibition performance by the Pike band. “The event went won derfully and smoothly, with everything flowing well. The parents and students did an amazing job all day and 1 could not be more proud of how they represented Pike County,” said direc tor of bands Lee Ewing. “There were an esti mated 1,200 students in attendance and approxi mately 500 spectators.” South Forsyth High School earned the Grand Champion title in the competition. Denmark High School earned second place and Jack- son High School earned third place at this year’s March the Plank. The Pirate Regiment was able to perform as well as they exhibited their show for the year titled “Today, Tonight, Tomorrow” and featur ing music by Jefferson Airplane, Elton John, Lin Manuel Miranda, Leonard Bernstein and Billy Joel. The Pirate Regiment takes the field for their exhibition show.
