Wrestling team brings home third from Chattahoochee River meet
The Pike County
High School varsity
wrestling team took
eight wrestlers to the
Chattahoochee River
Wrestling Association
recently and went home
with third place. The
team narrowly missed
second place by 5
points. Those placing
included Jack Barron
and Landon Karoffa in
fifth place, Aiden Stanley,
Gage Lee, Luke Woerner
and Cooper Jones in
third place; Kaden Nor
ris in second place and
Jakilen King who was the
champion with all pins.
The Pirates entered
20 in the JV version of
the tournament and took
home a heap of med
als. Caden Hinson placed
second, Jack Bell placed
third, Jordan Thompson
placed third, Zane Bristol
placed third, Hayden Lit
tleton earned first place,
lan White placed second,
Rylee Gordon earned
first place, Luke Moon
placed second, JD Roth
placed third, Joseph
Adams placed fourth and
Owen Hammett earned a
first place finish.
The Pirates are 8-6 as
a team and ranked in the
top 10 of AAA. Last week
the team travel to Rome
to wrestle in a 22-team
Cohulla Creek tourna
ment.

her letter and Elijah Slagle
who wrote, “Please don’t
bring me any switches.
Will you please bring me
candy, not coal?” Madison
from Jenna Williams’ third
grade class asked for “no
homework forever and
$100.”
Brantley Blessitt wrote,
“Dear Santa, 1 want a cat
tree and a fast car. 1 also
want a hover board and
bait caster and a lot of
lures and a clean pond
and will you get rid of our
beaver please. And that
is all.”
Among many questions
about the North Pole, the
elves and the reindeer
was Carter Pierce’s ques
tion. He wrote, “I wonder,
have you ever not been
Santa?”
There were some funny
and unique requests,
including Ki’Maya Bur
den who wrote, “I want a
cat for Christmas. If you
can’t afford a cat, 1 want a
snake.”
Many letters included
stories about the popular
Elf on the Shelf, including
Kynidi Brae Brinson who
wrote, “This year I would
like some clothes for my
elf and 1 hope Ella my elf is
doing great visiting. 1 love
my elf, she is so much
fun and 1 hope you have a
great, great flight.”
Judah Reeves wrote,
“My elf came today. He
was in my dad’s stocking”
and Kynsleigh Flynt John
son wrote, “Your elves are
watching me and Oaklyn.
1 hope you are getting a
good report.” Brynnley
Proctor wrote, “This year
what 1 would like is a dog,
three more elves and you
to have a safe trip. I’m so
glad you gave me an elf.”

Vaughn wrote, “I hope you
and your reindeer don’t
get in a snow storm.”
Some promised to
leave treats for Santa,
including Luke Smith who
wrote “I will leave Christ
mas cookies and choco
late milk for you and
carrots for the reindeer”
and Nolan Saccucci who
wrote “1 will leave you a
carrot, and grass for your
reindeer.”

Rosa Lee
Mangham King
Mrs. Rosa Lee Mangham King, age 105, of the
Lifsey Springs community in Pike County went to
be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, December
17, 2021, at Upson Regional
Medical Center. A celebra
tion of her life will be held
on Wednesday, December
22, at 2 p.m. at the Beulah
Baptist Church in Pike
County. Interment will follow
in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends at
the church from 1 p.m. until
the service hour.
Mrs. King was born on De
cember 4, 1916, in the Lifsey
Springs community of Pike
County and lived there her
entire life. She took an active role in the community,
helping families any way she could, from taking care
of the sick to providing vegetables and flowers from
her garden and yard. She took great pride in her yard
and flowers, riding her Snapper lawn mower when
she was in her late nineties. She very much enjoyed
feeding family and friends in her ole country kitchen
located in the backyard. Her biscuits cooked on the
old woodburning stove were to live for. Mrs. King
was well known throughout Pike County, surrounding
areas, and several other states for her wisdom and
quips in her Lifsey Springs column, which appeared
in the Pike County Journal Reporter for more than 33
years. A collection of her articles was published in
“The Wit and Wisdom of Rosa Lee” in 2009.
Mrs. King and her four siblings were recognized
and awarded a certificate by the Guinness Book of
World Records in 2018 for the highest combined
age achieved by five living siblings with a total of
485 years and 72 days. She was a lifelong member of
Beulah Baptist Church where she was very active and
held many positions. She especially enjoyed singing
in the church choir.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband,
John Marvin “Buck” King; a daughter Vivian (Sidney
M.) Lee; a son, Marvin Gwyn (Suzanne B.) King; her
parents: James W. and Essie L. Mangham; step father,
Henry Grady Jones; infant sister, Irene Mangham;
sisters: Helen Mangham, Grace M. (Kermit) Ward;
a brother, William D. (Frances H.) Mangham; and a
brother-in-law, Alton Brooks.
She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine K.
(James R.) Haymans; her sister, Virginia Brooks; six
grandchildren: Zane (Wanda) Lee, Sydney (Greg)
Webb, Stephen (Elizabeth) Lee, Eric (Wendy) Hay-
mans, Bryan Haymans and Kimberly K. Evans; 12
great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchil
dren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those
desiring make memorial contributions to Beulah Bap
tist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1083, Zebulon,
GA 30295, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Grace Ward
Mrs. Lucy Grace Mangham Ward, age 102, of Lifsey
Springs, passed away December 12, 2021. She was
born in Lifsey Springs, daughter of the late James
William Mangham and Essie
Leamon Bankston Mangham
Jones.
Mrs. Ward was a home
maker and a life-long resi
dent of Lifsey Springs and
member of Beulah Baptist
Church where she served
as church secretary for 50
years. In the 1920s, Mrs.
Ward swam in the original
Lifsey Springs pool. In 2016,
she and her siblings were
awarded a certificate by
the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest
combined age achieved by five living siblings at 485
years and 72 days. Mrs. Ward enjoyed traveling with
her husband to attend his WWII 100th Bomb Group
reunions. They attended ones held in California, Ohio
and Florida. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking for
her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband Kermit Ward, step-father Henry
Grady Jones, infant sister Irene Mangham, sister Hel
en Mangham, and brother W. D. Mangham.
She is survived by her children: Kenneth (Cheryl)
Ward, Harold (Brenda) Ward, Diane (Kenneth) Denny
and Mike (Brenda Whitten) Ward.
She dearly loved her grandchildren: Troy (Saman
tha) Ward, Jason Ward, Shannon (Lorran) Michaels,
Keri (David) Stowers, Jennifer (John) Duncan, Lisa
(Robert) Housman, Lee (Julie) Ward, Curtis Ward and
Anna Ward; and her 22 great-grandchildren and 13
great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her
sisters: Rosalee King and Virginia Brooks; and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Decem
ber 15 at 11 a.m. in Beulah Baptist Church, 7327 GA
Hwy. 109, Molena. Chaplain Chris Hinson and grand
son Curtis Ward officiated. Burial followed in the
church cemetery.
Friends visited the family on Tuesday, December
14, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Moody-Daniel Funeral Home assisted the family
