Family shares free greens for Thanksgiving
BY RACHEL McDANIEL
news@pikecountygeorgia.com
For the fifth year in
a row, Mark and Mary
Nalls are opening their
garden to the commu
nity as families prepare
for the Thanksgiving
holiday. The Nalls
garden has 70-foot rows
and this year they have
23 rows of turnips, 11
rows of collards and one
row of mustard greens.
The gates to the gar
den will open Monday
and Tuesday, Nov. 20-21
from daylight to dark
as the turnips and col
lards are harvested for
Thanksgiving meals.
“We would like to
offer two large bundles
of each turnips or col
lards if wanted to each
family,” said Mark Nalls.
“Last year we had about
174 cars come by. We
want all to get what they
need. Please bring a
medium trash bag and
1 will gather them for
each family.”
Two years ago, the
couple gave away 250
giant bundles of turnip
greens and 80 bundles
of collard greens.
“1 love to garden and
1 love to eat. Garden
ing is my therapy and
the garden is my place
to think, a free space
to work out problems.
The Bible says if you
have a gift, share that
gift. I’m pretty good at
gardening and 1 have the
room for it and 1 have
the desire. Giving away
the harvest really does
make your heart smile. 1
get a lot of hugs too.”

Puma/Porsche film commercial on Pike roads
SPECIAL PHOTO
Puma and Porsche recently filmed a commercial which shut down parts of
Caldwell Bridge Road and Concord/Hollonville Road. Puma released a special
line of shoes to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Porsche 911.
A Puma X Porsche commer
cial was recently filmed in Pike
County as the sports and shoe
company celebrates the 60th
birthday of the Porsche 911
with retro and heritage sneakers
fashioned after the car.
According to county man
ager Brandon Rogers, Caldwell
Bridge Road and Concord/Hol
lonville Road were shut down
Oct. 31 for filming. He said the
film company did a good job of
notifying everyone involved and
hired local sheriff’s deputies to
help with traffic control.
“The film company was very
easy to work with,” he said.
“One of the agreements was
them to pay for gravel for the
county to put on roads where
needed. They are in the process
of paying that invoice as a thank
you for using our roads in the
commercial.”
The unveiling and exclusive
pre-sale event for the sneakers
took place Sept. 5 at the Porsche
pop-up store during the IAA
Mobility event in Munich, Ger
many. In America, the shoes can
only be purchased online.
“PUMA and Porsche intro
duce two exclusive limited-
edition sneaker models: the
Retro Sneaker and the Heritage
Sneaker. Both pay homage to the
rich legacy and dynamic present
of the Porsche 911,” says Puma,
com. “Limited to only 1,972
pairs - a nod to the vehicle’s
birth year - each Retro Sneaker
is individually numbered and
distinguished by the presence of
the iconic Porsche lettering on
the top of the leather flap. The
grill badge, a distinctive circular
emblem, and the 60 Years of
Porsche 911 logo further ac
centuates the sporty character
of the sneaker, culminating in a
footwear masterpiece.”
