Mk. Editor:—By invitation 1 attend ed a called meeting of Mount Green Al liance ou Saturday, April 2nd. There wa* a good attendance, and a resolution endorsing the great labor convention waa panned unanimously. Every body was outapoken for the People's Party; eo you see the ‘‘black sheep” are not so scattering as the Union man * ferns to think. What did you first do? You threw out of employment all the little Town Politicians, (chip-totere for the Atlanta ring) and took into your own control the usniing of candidate*, and the framing of your platforms. Notice h, men! Nearly every croaker and critic of to-day, was a part of the ring machinery which you smashed yesterday. Nearly every newspaper assailing you to-day, is a part of the journalistic com bine whidi ruled and misruled the State before you took charge. the rstaerr. So much by way of general review. Now, where do we stand to-day ? We have, in one of the greatest gath erings ever known iu this country, re affirmed the declaration of principles made at St. Louis in 1883. Upon all sides, depression and dis tress is admitted. That we have a claim to relief no man denies. This much being conceded what fol lows? We must search for causes and re move them. THE earSES. Oar burdens are the result mainly of three bad system*: 1st. Unjust financial laws. 2nd. Unjust tax law*. 3rd. Unjust transportation laws. The evil of each of these system* i* the favoritism which the few enjoy at the expense of the many. “.Special privilege” is the curse of them all. “Equality” is the remedy for them all. CCRREXCY. A# to the financial question there is i difference of opinion among us. We all see the evils of the gold stand ard. We all see the dangers of allowing either one of the two precious uietals or both of them to put the value upon every other product under the situ. We all sec that labor and usefulness are the uatural standards by which the values of all commodities should lie measured; that when free interchange of commodities Letwecu man and man, is possible all things seek -this natural level; that free interchange is never pos- aible till we have as much money in circulation as the business of the coun try requires; that the business volume is itself the best regulator of the mouey volume; that the great law of supply and demand should regulate it. Gold alone should not l»e the only standard of value; for then gold is mas ter of all other products. Gold and silver together as a standard of value re lieve* the situation to the extent that the two exercise* a mastery which the one had before. Rut injustice still remains. No two commodities should measure the value of all other commodities. No three cooiniodics should do it. No four should The Union clainia to have heard of the secret organization of club* by the so-called “Third Party” for the purpose of defeating the nominee* of the l>ehioc- racy. The heading of the article in question is false and so is nearly every word iu it. Any one who read* the papers knows that the calls for what he term* “secret dubs” have lieen published, and that the resulta of all such meetings have likewise been given to the world. The People's Party has been, and is still or ganizing, and it will contiuue to do no until every couuty in the State is thor oughly organized, but there is no secret about it, and the Union knows it, or at least should know it. The Union man says that the farmers “are docking to join the Third Party.” That much of the editorial is correct; most of the farmer* have already gone into the People’s Party, and the balance of them will not hesitate much longer; all the false statements and misrepresen tation* of the old party papers and polit ical bosses cannot atop them or bring them back into the fold of the party of false promises. No air, the farmers of Georgia can no louger be fooled into supporting a party that admit* their op pressed condition but is too cowardly to grant them any relief. Two yean ago we wer»told that the Democrat party was the party of the people, and that if we would make our fight inside the party line* our demand* would he granted. Wc did ho and all who read know the result ha* proven a flat failure, and now they want to tool us again, but they are doomed to disappointment, for we pro- l*oae to select our own candidates and elect them too independently of the old party. No air, there is no secret about our organizing; we have simply quit asking our old bo*sew what we may may not do. We used to do so, but 1 have at last found out that ire are free uien and will not he dictated to any E.H. CRAWLEY, SR., HEADQUARTERS FOR FURNITURE and STOVES. USr US UCT TOGETHER. The battle will be fierce and long, and the divisions will be permanent and bitter. Let it never be said hereafter that we did not strive for peace. Let it never be said that we did not appeal to reason Iwfore passion threw down her defiance. Let R never be said that we avoided dlsmarioa, argument, reason — every peaceful plea that patience and patriot ism could suggest. WE *KEK THE COMMON (iOul). What is our platform? Before the great issues shall' be joined, neighborhoods divided, fhmilica rent, let na once more look honestly and fairly at the questions involved and ace whether the people of our dear old Stale cannot get together upon a common Declaration and go forward with a common purpose.
