It is probable that not less than twenty-five hundred people disembarked at Ocean Pier to .Hjicnd the holiday on the island. Manager Pratt wa- a In day and deserved a meilal for hia Mueeess in dining and sleeping sueli a horde as swept, down on him. While in the hotel parlors fair maidens in pretty rai ment an«l gay gallants in fashionable at tire went through the intricate figures of the t/nnioM, their country cousins at the pavilion danced scliottisehe and jiolka with an untiring vigor that knew no want of waxed Hoors nor still kid slij»- l>ers. In the park two liase-liall nines con tended for the supremacy in our national Maine. A yacht race wan more or lens exciting to a large number of spectators and a horse and Mcycle race- drew crowds to the hotel. The jieople shifted alHiut constantly and probably missed nearly all the sjH»rts, as the writer did, in the endeavor to see everything. A sack race tickled our American sense of humor, the greasy pole was climbed, and, indeed, nothing was omitted save the reading of the declaration of inde pendence. If a rousing old-time Fourth of July oratiou was looked for, we had only to remember that our silver-tongued orators are this year evoking eloquence for the halls of Congress, and the prowess of our Revolutionary fathers must, i*erforce, Ik* left unsung. ISv night-fall the crowd of day tourists, tired-looking mothers with sleepy chil dren and empty lunch baskets had de parted for their homes, and our lovely islaud once more settled down to the ap- pcarancc of a watering-place for gentle folks. It-was then that the parlors of Hotel St. Simons gathered together the young In-auty and manhood of Bruns wick and Way cross. It was a scene to make one in love with life, the sight of tv dancers, the fair promenaders icon-lit piazzas and the sparkle of old ocean’s waves as they gently lapped the shore. No one asked what the waves were saying, for they rippled out love and sweet content as plainly as the orchestra measured rythmic beats to the tread of fairy feet. The i*artv from the colony under tlig chaperonage of Mrs. Will Branham, Mrs. W. W. Sharpe ami Mrs. II. W. Reed were Misses Maggie Crawley, Lola Johnson, Hattie Grace. Kate Johnson, Sallie Ascliraft, Ethel Roberts and Messrs. Ward Albertson, Leo Sweat and J. Cox. If any chaperons of fair girls could share the pride of our Waycross matrons it was Mrs. Horace Dart, of Brunswick, who joined our party with Misses Eva and May Dart, Lila and Emma Stallings, Mimic Frye, of Savan nah ; Emma Simmons. Lula Dart and Messrs. Willis Ihtrt, Earnest Dart, Claude Dart and Littlefield. The generous St Simons’ management has pi ami a piano in the pavilion at the pier, and our young people while away a part of each evening in music and dancing. Impromptu dinner parties are the pleasant surprises of each day colony, as friends arrive unexpectedly. On the Fourth the editor hail the pleas ure of dining, in true Boheiqqp fashion, a charming party of young people, Mira Rosalie Holmes, Miss Lelian Whitfield, of Brunswick; Miss Maggie Crawley, Mr. Lee Crawley, Mr. Wn.
