It was found that prohibition or high license law was being systematically evaded and this finance was framed by the city attor ney, Col. S. W. Hitch, to meet the issue nvolved. This measure has lM*cn the mhject <*f much criticism, both favorable md adverse. We are of the opinion hat the action of the council will have the effect of determining definitely whe ther there is any power under the authori ty of law to successfully resist this eva- n of the plain will of the people. As have suggested before, if liquor can lie sold successfully in violation of law and the city derive no revenue from its ifle, would it not be better sold le gally under ]>olice regulation and such license as will aid materially the city’s finances? This ordinance we think will settle the question of expediency. A very unfortunate aecideut hapi»ened to Mr. J. I.. Mobley, o|»erator for the S. F. & W. R. 11., on last 8aturday.
