Many ladic* came to show their gratification at the happy turn of affairs, and the house fairly bub bled over with joy. On the stage were the beaming countenances of the chief workers on the prohibition side. The meeting wa* gracefully presided over by Mr. W. W. Sharpe, and appropriate short addresses made hv the Rev. Mr. Matthew*, Judge Sweat, Col. Wilson, Mr. Tooraer, Col. Hitch, M^C. Austin, Rev. Green and Prt>f. Snelson. The meeting on leaving the Opera house, was treated to a bon-fire and fire-works by the boys, and hearty cheer* were sent up for Wilson. Mr. John Brooks, one of the oldest citizens of Charlton county, died at his home last Tuesday night He retired apparent good health, and his family was surprised upon attempting to awaken him in the morning to find that he had fallen into that *leep from which there is no waking.
