Attention is called to the fact that the next annual meeting of the South Geor gia Confederate Veterans’ Association trill be held in the city of Brunswick on Thursday, January 19th, 1893, the j versarv of the birth of General Robert E. Lee. Ixt county associations assem ble at their usual places of meeting the fiirst Saturday in January to make suitable preparations for attending annual re-union, and in counties South Georgia where no organizations exist, let the veterans meet ‘at the court houses of their respective counties on said day and organize preparatory to at tending. City, council met m regular monthly session at 8 o’clock p. in:, his honor Mayor Knight presiding. Aldermen McNeil, Justice, Murphy and Gillon present. Read and confirmed the minutes of meetings held October 20th and 24th 1892. Council took up the tax appeal rases of Capt. C. W. Hilliard and Mr. T. H. Morton, appealed from the city assess ment of 1889, with a view to a settle ment of the same. Col. J. C. McDonald representing the appellants made a pro position for a settlement of both cases, which on motion was received and accep ted. The Satilla MTg. Co., was heard by council in relation to closing the old Glenmore road where it runs through the property of the company. Messrs. H. W. Wilson, Miles Albertson and E. H. Reed _• heard by the council for the com pany. After discussion it was on motion resolved, that the council notify the county commissioners of Ware county that the city contemplates closing the old Glenmore road where it passes through the property of the Satilla Man ufacturing Company within tlie .city limits, and along the right-of-way of the S. F. & W. Railway company, toward Glenmore, to the corporation line, and the council requests that the county open tha road beyond the corporation line connect with Glenmore street, as now laid aut by the city within the corporate line. Carried. The clerk is hereby instructed to notify the county commissioners of this action of council. Council passed the following ordi nance, to-wit: An ordinance to pro hibit the obstruct ion of any street, lane, road or sidewalk. It Ordained, That from and after the passage of this ordinance, any person or persons who shall, knowingly, wilfully, or negligently, stop, close, or in any manner whatever obstruct any street, lane, road or sidewalk in this city, or shall cause the same to lie done, and shall refuse to remove the said distrac tion, or open said street, lane, road or sidewalk, after having been duly noti fied so to do, by any marshal or pol ice man of said city, shall be fined not more than fifty dollars, or work on the public streets not more than thirty days. The mayor called the attention of council to the necessity of building at i, a “calaboose” fur the use of the city. On . Cemetery returned to general city fund $300,00, loaned to cemetery fund for the purchase of addition to Ixitt Cemetery. The protest of Mrs. Sarah F. Williams against paying interest tax on water works bonds received and filed. The bond of ex-policeman T. It. Hen derson, was on motion, cancelled. The chief of the fire department in structed to purchase a set of harness for the chemical fire engine at once. - The third quarterly reports of city officers was passed over on account of the absence of tLt* chairman of -finance. On account of th.c sickness of the city tax collector, his report of taxes collec ted for the year 1892 was passed over. Clerk of council was directed to issue tax executions against all city tax de faulters on the first day of Decendier, 1892. On motion ordered that the mayor be authorized to draw his draft in favor of Henry N. Sasnett for $G.OO for three days service to finance committee. Council audited and ordered paid the following bills, to-wit: O. D’Auvergne, work to cemetery, $3.50; O. D’Auvergne, $2.25; John Williams, brick for ceme tery use, $8.00 ; C. C. Grace & Co., mer chandise, $50.65; J. P. Ulmer, black smith work, $7.75; Satilla Manufactur ing Company, lights, $187.44; S. E. Sowell, whitewashing stockade, $10.00; Grace A McNeil, sundries, 80c.; C. C. Grace A Son, sundries, $7.80; H. W. Reed, lease, printing, $45.00; \^. P. Lee, provisions, $170.80; J. W. Mallon, mer chandise, $13.55; Mrs. M. C. Austin, making convict clothing, $3.60; A. II. McWhorter & Co., medicines, $6.95; Lloyd A Adams, cement, $1.50. The claim of J. M. Smith for damage to horse, was referred to special commit tee, consisting of aldermen Sharpe and Murphy, for settlement, if a settlement can be made, if not, the matter to be submitted to arbitration, one arbitrator to be chosen by the city, one bv the claimant and these two to select the third.
