THE WAYCROSS HERALD, SATURDAY, MAY 27. 1893. %«j[ecoss fjcruJU*. Official Organ of Ware Connty* Charl ton County and City of Waycro**. THB HERALD FCBLiaHIXC. COMPART. With little bark and lowly sail. I hug the shore and shun the gale. Let others dare the storm-swept sea. The sheltered, peaceful bay for me. My little craft I hand and steer. And veer about without a fear. To more adventurous hearts I leave To fore forth where the billows heave And tiny though my shallop be. It is a ship and on a sea; And something of the joy I share Of those who farther seaward dare. In- developed, the Philadelphia Record says: It is not impossible that the vast water power of Niagara Falls may yet be har nessed to do the mechanical work not only of the adjacent communities but also of cities far away. The company which controls the water power has the entire state for its field, and may carry its wires and conduits even as far as New York city. Wherever it may obtain a foothold the ascendancy of the steam engine as a source of energy is likely to be sericmly menaced, since electrical force generated by water power is cheaper than steam power. SATURDAY, MAY 27, 1893. A Human Headed Bird. A friend hailing from Nanhai district in Kaungtung states that an uncommon looking bird was captured there in the country last winter. The bird stands three feet high from the ground, and has the head of a human l»eing, whilst its body is covered with hair several inches in length. On its apj»earance the coun try people were much alarmed and a large crowd set out to exterminate the uncommon, for fear it should be a dan gerous customer to harbor. The person who managed to save it from the mob and had the courage to capture it has made a good thing out of it. He has been exhibiting the rare fowl and has made piles of money by it. In addition to its strange appearance the bird is said to be a “moat modest crea ture,” avoiding the gaze of curious peo ple, as if it were too bashful to let peo ple see it, and it is only at the command of its master that it will show itself.— North China Herald.
