My Partner.
With charmin*; grace and winning smile.
She sit* beside the table.
And helps me win the game of whist.
With skill incomparable.
But still another deeper game.
My soul is fust revealing:
Tis played with one lone Jack of Hearts.
And Cupid do£* the dealing.
The sly god softly strokes her cheek.
And fondles with her tresses,
And then, with rosy upturned palm.
Doth throw me empty kisses.
Alas ! Alas ! That I alone
Should feel his sweet beguiling.
While on some favored absent one
Her heart is always smiling.
Would that ray future game of life
Might all be played about her ;
So lone my hand, so ill my luck.
So drear the world without her,
—Charles A. Reei>.
Some Items.
A mob at Bedford, Indiana, took
John Terrell, the murderer of Con
ductor John F. Price from the jail and
lynched him. So they do it in Indiana,
Pennsylvania and New Jersey just like
they do in Texas and South Carolina
and everywhere else.
Physicians headed the list of suicides
last year, as they have done for the last
ten years.
There are now not less than 2133 lit
erary women in Paris, of whom 1211
write novels or book's for children, 217
pedagogical works and 280 devote them
selves to poetry. The others do not
limit themselves to any one department
of literary work.
There are said by statisticians to be
about 420,000,000 Christians in the
world. Nevertheless it isn’t safe to lose
sight of your umbrella even for a
moment.—Shoe and Leather Reporter.
With the Chinese exclusion act in
active operation the demand for rat terri
ers would be considerably increased.
How to Bnild up Tour Town.
Talk up resources.
Induce an investigation of its merits.
Support your newspaper—the town’s
month piece.
Invite visitors and win them by
courtesy and hospitality.
Patronize home industry, even at a
little sacrifice.
Lend your efforts to the futherance of
every enterprising movement
Discuss among yourselves every mat
ter that might be conducive of good.
Subscribe liberally to every cause of
merit
Be charitable and exercise a pro
ficiency of brotherly love.
Don't exact too much from ybar neigh
borhood and be true to yourself
And last but not least serve God and
keep His commandments.
Attribute every success to united
efforts of the town and to selfish “me."
