Clerk. in the Su- Jim Courney, the onvicted of the Spring term of the Superior court of Ware county, and whose motion for a new trial was over ruled by Judge Smith on the 13th inst., is still hopeful, through the untiring ef forts of his council to set aside the ver dict of the jury and obtain a new trial. His case has been taken to the Supreme court, and will probably be heard this week or the early part of next. The Courts, however, are not apt to inter- lere with the course of justice, and with all the facts in Jim Courney’s case be fore them, the Supreme court will no doubt sum Jim up as a fit subject for an impressive example to those disposed to be reckless destroyers of human life. Don’t Waite Time. Looking around, but go direct to Brad Watson & Co’s, and remember they almost give away goods on Monday, d&wlt In Clinch County. The question of the removal of the court house from Homerville to DuPont, is furnishing a nice little excitement for Clinch county. It seems to be a ground hog case with Homerville and she is alive to the situation. Barbecues are to be given at almost every precinct, and the county iR being ransacked from one end to the other for votes. The DuPont people are also active and both sides claim the victory. It is to be hoped that ill feeling and personal animosities will be avoided. who, it will be i to Waycross for safe-keeping, has been found guilty with a recommendation to mercy. Mrs. Wisenbaker swore posi tively that Cothran was the man who committed the murder. She pointed him out and said, “Gentlemen, he is the man.” And now, a question arises, if Cothran was guilty at all he was very guilty, why then should the jury recom mend him to the mercy of the Court. If he killed Wisenbaker, and the evidence is plain that he did, he should have been hung. He now goes to the peni tentiary, will doubtless escape, and the next time heard from will be serving in the Texas legislature. Coats’ Thread 4c spool. It is thought that this money was some of Burrow’s ill gotten gains. He was known to have had about that amount of money a year before he was killed* and it was never accounted for. New- some caught a cat out of the Satilla riv er last Saturday something over a foot long which had attempted to swallow a trout nearly as long as himself. More than two inches of the trout protruded from the cat’s mouth. Cat fish do not often catch a trout napping. The strangest thing about it is that the cat should take Mr. Newsome’s bait with seveial inches of trout protruding. We refer to Mr. John Hogan, a gentleman of undoubted veracity lor the truth of this statement. - Bycicle Meet at Cumberland. They Pay the Penalty. News somewdat meagre, but neverthe less true has reached us to the effect that the negro who killed Mr. I. J. Brown at Nichols about a week since, has paid the penalty of his crime. He was captured near Hazlehurst but was taken from the officers as they were car rying him to Douglas, and lynched. Reports say that he was burned but this lacks confirmation. It is also rumored that another negro who was with the man who did the shooting and probably urged him to the crime, has also been found dead. Patent tipped at 49c for Monday, d&wlt Brad Watson & Co. Bright Spring Dnjrs. The spring should be pre-eminently a season of contentment, happiness and hope. In these bright and pleasant months the country should enjoy its highest degree of tranquility and pros perity. But spring, it is well known, is often a period of discomfort and dis turbance in the physical system. Im portant organs of the body become tor pid or irregular in their action, and the fact is instantly reflected in the mental condition of the individual. A disorder ed liver means disordered nerves and a dull and unsteady brain. Anything which will bring the physical system into harmony with budding Nature con fers an enormous benefit upon the na tion, besides the mere allaying of physi cal discomfort Hood’s Sarsaparilla does this, as thousands of grateful men and womeu can testify, and increased use of this standard spring medicine is ot more real practical importance in pro moting health and quiet in the business world than reams of abstract theorizing. 4ft LU.
